A complete cooling system drain requires a bi-directional scan tool with Toyota software in order to refill the coolant thermos. If the shop does not drain the thermos, then there is no need for it, and it is no harder a job than any other car. It might just be that the shop doesn't want to get caught in a hybrid rat hole. I guess they don't want/need the business. Recently someone posted the name of an independent shop in the greater SD area, maybe search for that.

I took mine in yesterday after a regular oil change exposed pink residue (coolant leak). I have 65700 miles and extended warranty from Toyota. The process took 6 hours (dealer was busy) and cost me nothing. They replaced a water pump.

There is another recall in the work that will replace the hybrid water pump. The dealer did not have the parts for that yet so will need to go back for that one.

And another one bites the dust. 2006 at 65,000 miles. It sure would have been nice if it had failed at 59,500 the time of my last oil change. Ugghhh...

They quoted me around 300 bucks. So that sounds reasonable.

First problem I've had on this car, but a little disappointing none the less.
