So i have an iPhone 5, and an currently seeking a way to do playback in my car. Right now I'm using the 3.5mm headphone jack but I have to crank up the stereo to 25+ on the freeway to get a decent volume so i want to use the line level signal from the lightning port. I have the non-nav JBL audio system and was wondering if there was a way to either install a USB port for audio, or another alternative to connect the iphone. I can't seem to find a solid answer.
Go to the Proclip site. THey have a number of different mounts that will fit the Prius without drilling or using sticky stuff. They are very expensive, but the mounts are very high quality. I have been using one for about a year now. You can plug the cable into the audio port in the console. I got my cable from a vendor on ebay (although I have an iphone 4S). I plug into the power p0rt under the bridge for power. How you do that will hinge on whether there is a cable that will fit the iphone 5 yet. Alternatively, there may be a bluetooth device you can plug into the audio port. The cable issue may be a problem. It is the primary reason I decided to wait a generation before I moved to a newer iphone.
I bought a USB-powered Bluetooth dongle kit that has a short audio cable to connect to the Aux in jack for $35 from Amazon. It automatically pairs with my iPhone 5 whenever I start the car. It still allows the built in hands-free Bluetooth call to work, a great YouTube video shows this.
Go to ebay item #251175882976, by Dick Daddy Racing, also a great YT video if you search Prius Bluetooth Streaming music.
