injen cold air intake.. Good or Bad? anyone know?

Here are my opinions:

If the intake pipe is at all short, it will throw codes, as the Atkinson cycle engine pumps air and fuel mixture back into the intake manifold from the cylinder, if the intake volume is low, this will cause fuel to escape into the atmosphere and change your mixture.

Because as much as 1/3 of the air has already been in the cylinder once, it is never really cold. Should you want 'free' colder air, quit running radiator fluid into the Throttle body. Sadly since that won't make more noise, most hot rodders will be disappointed.

It is extremely hard to reliably dyno a Prius, so no one has any proof that HP changes. It will make more noise, so some will believe HP changed, the term is butt dyno.

It will lighten the car by $200 in your wallet.

 

Also, since the intake is getting air from inside the engine compartment and not actually cold outside air, it's really a "warm" air intake.

 

What's the point of this mod? Will this mod reduce intake air temo, increase HP and fuel economy or enhance engine sound sufficient to off-set the cost?

 

Sole point - enhance engine sound assuming louder is your idea of enhanced

 

Lol, have you seen the claims for the vortex air intake fins or whatever it's called? Besides, the Prius has an Atkinson cycle engine and a CVT transmission; therefore, performance is not inherent in it's nature.

 

If Toyota could get better gas mileage and 10 more HP out of a Prius for under $200, they would.

Funny. The HP claims are also funny. Read the magazines that tell the truth (on other cars of course as you can't really dyno a Prius). The measurements tell the truth. Usually no overall improvement, but the claims are based on one part of the graph where the HP actually rises rather than drops.

But the part does do one thing, it lightens your wallet by $200. Oh, and it may actually look cool.

 

Does it help, I really don't know at this point but it was fun to instal and it looks/sounds great.

The Techs at the dealership thinks it Awesome.

 

Then you got all you can expect. For me, sounds great would mean my car was totally silent.

 

Silent ??? There's nothing silent about a Prius on the Hwy between 55 to 95 mph.

 

Odd mine seems real quiet (it is the passengers who are screaming)
