    Hi Priuschat,

read to the end, there is something to have for free.

as many here I am tracking the consumption of my Prius. After 1.5 years and nearly 17000 km with my Prius I have collected a number of refills. I am tracking the consumption in a little app for the iPhone called Fuel Log Evo.
There are pictures attached. One in MPG, one in Liter per 100 Kilometer, and one in Liter and Gallons as common in the UK. Don't ask what happen with the fifth refill, guess I fill her up properly.

I am actually the developer of this app and the maintainer of its free ancestor Fuel Log 3. Many user have asked for the possibility to enter notes and to improve the graph. Some asked for making conversions between MPG and l/100km.

Conversion became from "impossible to do in the app" to "do with two taps". The graph came a long way too. Entering Liter and calculating in UK Gallons is now possible again.

I am getting ready to release the version that you see in the pics. Exporting from the app to a CSV file and loading data into fully.com or spritmonitor.de has been made easier, too.

So now comes the free bit:
The free bit is that I have available five promo codes and I want to give them to PriusChat members.
    • What you need to do: If you have an iPhone or an iPod and you would like a copy of the app, then send me a PM. The first five PM's asking for a code I respond to by sending a code.
Use the code in iTunes and get a copy of the current (old) app. When the new version is release all users will get the update.

    And l
et me know what you think. (There is also a email feedback button inside the app).

    This looks nice.

I used the Android app called My Cars and it works pretty well.

I have some loose contact with David, who works on MyCars and we did look into making data exchange possible. Currently there isn't much request for a feature like that and it has been but on the rear burners.

Two codes are send out already. Keep it going :)

Do you think you can link to or allow easy integration with apps like My Tracks? This would all users to know why they are getting the MPG they are logging because, this app tracks speeds, time, elevation etc. but it does not log fuel use.

    Thanks, Olaf

    Codes are gone.
The lucky ones are: DallasGuy, stream, V8Cobrakid, Kore971, ZooMan, Scaurex, Bkkorupcountry

    Congratulations!

It did say five codes up there, but all of them have asked nicely and I could not convince myself to turn down anybody.

You can redeem the code on the start page of iTunes. With any feedback please comment here, send me a PM or use the email button on the info screen of the app. I will respond a quickly as possible.

Sorry, took me a while to respond.

This morning I tried myTracks in an attempt to see how integration could be done. While myTracks is recording the actual movement Fuel Log is registering only the data from refills.

I tend to refill every other week so I do eight or nine daily commutes between refills. With myTracks I would need to remember every morning to switch it on and to turn it off in the evening. In the attached example there is some poor GPS coverage and the complete commute was not recorded. Traffic changes each day so I can benefit from the elevation profile (that is fixed) but the average speed, braking and acceleration will be different each day.

In my opinion myTracks and Fuel Log work great together if one has already a list of refills calculated, has found a significantly different consumption and then wants to run a test over a few day to check if the driving pattern or elevation affects the consumption.

I would not have myTracks active every day. But then again I am not a hypermiler just an average Prius driver :)
Some of the user feedback to Fuel Log tells me not everybody has their iPod with them each time they refill. They do the updates later, when back at home.

It's cool to see the pattern from myTracks, though. :thumb:

No need to open a new thread, we just dust off this one and it will be like new...

Well, you know, where I grew up, Germany, that place is not only the land of the Autobahn but it is also the country where they have this tradition that on the night of December 6 the figure of St. Nicolas comes to the houses of children and brings the kids some sweets and a small present or two.

What does this have to do with fuel consumption monitoring? When I was a child I really liked that tradition. Now as a grownup I want keep that spirit going. So on Dec. 6 my Fuel Consumption tracking App is free as I am repeating the Nikolausi-Special! I have done it last year and it made some kids happier. :)

So tomorrow, don't spend the money on the app but get your kids a small surprise. Even if you don't live in Germany, it's the idea that counts. Please pass the word.

    Happy Nikolaus!

    Thanks, Stefano

You can use the automatic export via iTunes (see pic) or can send the refills as a CSV file by mail.

While we are talking about Fuel Log Evo: Those of you who are still on iOS4 could you lease hold off from installing the upgrade from last night for a moment? There is a bug in version 3.5.34 that will block the app if you are on iOS4. Your data will be ok, only the app will refuse to start.

iOS 5 (and 3.x) is ok. I submitted a fix this afternoon, hopefully it will be available soon. Sorry about the inconvenience. This bug is rather embarrassing, I meant to test for it but didn't.

I take it, you have been waiting for this all year ;)

Germany is traditionally known as the land of the Autobahn. The Germans also have a tradition that on the night of December 6 the figure of St. Nicolas comes to the homes of children and leaves some sweets and a small present or two for the kids..

What does this have to do with fuel consumption monitoring?

Today, on December 6, >Fuel Log Evo - MPG, Gas Mileage and Fuel Economy Calculator< will be available for free.

Instead of spending money on this App, use the money and get a small surprise for your kids. Or for you smaller sister or brother, or your nephew and niece, or your grandchild.
Kids are happy about even the small things in life. If you don't know any children think about making a donation. You will find a way to make a child happy :)

    Happy Nikolaus
