I have a 2012 Prius base model. The dash clock loses almost 3-4 minutes a day. Its still under warranty so I'll likely take it into the dealer and get it checked out..anyone else have this issue ?
The only thing "different" is I have a Garmin HD Bluetooth connector (which streams engine stats like the Scanguage does to my GPS unit) hooked up to the OBDII port..but that *should* not cause any issues I think.

I have the same problem of the clock losing 3-4 min / day in my Plug-In Advanced.
I got the car 8 months ago. The slow clock has been an issue from day one.
I'd rather the clock be slow, than fast. It is easier to advance it a few min.

Wow! Mine loses 1 min every 2 weeks or so and I thought it was bad!

Did their quartz crystal get affected by the radiation from Fukoshima?

I mis-spoke earlier. I'm only losing 3-4 secs. per day - not minutes.

4 seconds a day works out to 56 seconds every two weeks. This is on par with mine.

Does OP mean 3-4 mins a day? If so, it is ridiculous and I will definitely get it checked out.

You are not alone. My G III also goes 3 to 4 mins lower a day - when I have my external HUD hooked on the OBD. The problem goes away when I have it unpluged. Still didn't figure out why is that. Did you get any feedback from your dealer? Thanks.

I verified this -- when I disconnected my Garmin ECOroute HD, the clock was keeping time perfectly -- when I connect it, the clock loses time. I have not approached the dealer, I know what they are going to say :) -- don't connect it ! But I love my Garmin HD so I just make sure I push the minute button every couple of days to keep the time relatively accurate.

Do you know what kind of protocol is used for communication via your OBDII plug? It can be some bus timing discrepancy. My adapter uses the ISO 15765-4 11bit 500kbits and I don't experience any issues with car's clock, just few seconds per week.

Very interesting, because I recently had to bump my clock up a few minutes, I thought it was odd. And guess what I too have the Garmin ecoroute. Mine is a Prius IV 2013

We have an older Garmin, and afaik the clock is about as accurate as it can get. Adjust it for daylight saving to standard, that's the only time.

My 2012 Plug-In loses on average about 1 minute a week lately... it seems to have increased since the weather got colder... If this was a regular PC, that would be a huge problem... I just wonder if this has other implications other than just an annoyance to owners.

Amd I thought it was just my car. I have a PiP and the clock loses about a minute every two weeks.

My clock runs fast to the tune of about a minute per month. I often have to wait for the hourly news to come on and then hit the "00" button to reset it to the nearest hour. Prefer that than hitting the minute button 59 times.

Not sure what causes this, but the Garmin is the reason for the clock time issue. I don't understand it,so I don't have a solution

I have the same issue losing 3 minutes a day running Torque with the obd2 plugged in. What I did to get around the issue is I founda pprogram that will automatically close the Bluetooth connection when I turn off the car and turn it back on when power is restored without having to remove the obd2 device.

Anyone know what the root cause of this is?

The Prius is not at fault. The root cause is time itself is out of calibration, it is moving too fast. The Prius itself is correct. :D
