I took one of my steel wheels off to get some info that seems to be in short supply right now. Hope this helps those looking at other wheels for their car. First off, weight w/ tire and wheel was 32.5 lbs. According to Tire Rack, the stock Turanza EL400-02 in 175/65R15 weighs 17 lbs. Subtract that from 32.5 and the steel wheel weighs 15.5 lbs. Wheel size is 15x5. These are the only markings on the wheel. Is the offset part of these numbers or is it just not stamped on the wheel? Some other tidbits... The wheel lug nut size is 21mm. The threading and pitch, however, are the same as my Honda FIT and I was able to test fit some aftermarket 19mm lugs I have for the FIT onto the c wheel studs. Also, bolt pattern is 4x100, same as early Civics and FITs, plus many other small, 4 lug cars. Lol... the breadbasket/beehive looking thing behind the shock is either the muffler or resonator. I never noticed it before I took off the wheel. That's one weird looking muffler. Sorry I couldn't provide the offset of the wheels, which is what, along with the wheel weight, I was after. So, does anyone know the offset of the stock steel wheel? How about the 15" or 16" alloy wheel offsets/specs?
good job. I can properly do that after I picked up my C with 15 inch alloy. I think the tire is the same one the 15 inch steel and 15 inch alloy?
I just took off my steel wheel from my Prius-C Two and did some measuring...tried to be as accurate as possible when measuring with a tape measure... Since I couldn't take the tire off of the wheel, various web sights said to add 1" to width of wheel to get total width of wheel. Divide total width of wheel to get center point which would then be 3" for the stock 5" wide wheel. Offset = 4-9/16" - 3" = 1-9/16" which = 39.69 mm OEM wheel: 15" x 5" 4/100 Weight: 15.5 lbs (per previous post) Backspace: 4-9/16" Offset: 39.69 mm Hub Diameter: 2-1/8"
This might be a dumb question, but just how big of an impact is wheel weight. I'm thinking of getting aftermarket rims and it would seem like the lightest rim would be beneficial for mileage. Of course, lighter is more expensive, so how does wheel width/weight impact handling, and is it worth it to swap it out based on weight or width or both? Any suggestions for improvements beyond the tower strut and/or sway bars would be extremely appreciated.
Wheel/tire weight is huge, especially with a car that is HP challenged like the c. I'm still researching what wheels will fit w/o interference plus not end up weighing more than the stock setup. see my post here... http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-c-accessories-modifications/105927-test-fit-wheels-prius-c.html
Any informed guesses as to whether this old Yaris wheel below would fit? Looks like 5-mm spacers would be needed given its 45-mm offset, but otherwise? Is the 5.5 inch width vs. Prius C's 5-inch likely to make any difference fitting the 175/65-15 tires? Yaris wheel description: The Manufacturer Part Number is: 4261152530 and the identification stamp/number is: SA20K. This is a 4 Lug 15x5.5 inch, 4x100 bolt pattern (45mm Offset), One Piece Alloy Factory, OEM Wheel, Rim. The position on the vehicle is: Universal. Interchange Number: 69553. Thx, Tom
Some confirmations on the weights I posted earlier. I've had the tires dismounted from the stock steel wheels in preparation of having them mounted on some lighter rims that are being delivered. The weight of one tire- The weight on one steel rim with the TPMS sensor still installed varied between 15.5 and 16 lbs. Scale is only reads in 1/2 pound increments- Wheels that are being delivered weigh between 11-12 lbs, so I'll be (hopefully) saving 3.5-4 lbs per wheel/tire assembly once the tires are mounted to the new rims.
Mine said the same thing today when I went to pick up the dismounted tires. We'll see, though... there are always surprises that one overlooks when selecting wheels and you can never really be sure until the tires and rims are mounted onto the car.

Hello Which tire is better for "Fuel efficiency / Performance" this is for daily driving (car will be lowered NOT slammed) 205/50/15 or 195/50/15 or 195/55/15 Thanks
Hi fellas, I was looking into getting alloy rims under the guise they are lighter and stronger than the OEM steel rims..I'm in Australia so we use kilograms, but according to your weights 15.5 lbs = ~7kg!!! The 15" alloys I looked at the guy said they were about 9kg ~ 19lb each!! SO for weight/fuel efficiency the OEM steel rims are better, so it all come down then to the tyres? Correct?
With aftermarket alloys, the trick has always been to find something that is lighter, aesthetically pleasing and reasonably priced. I've found you can find 2 out of the 3 relatively easily, but meeting a wheel to satisfy all 3 is the real challenge. Tires are an entirely different discussion which will largely depend on what you are after in terms of their "performance".
these two sites may help finding wheels and tires wheel weights Wheel Weights Specs Guide tire size calculator Tire size calculator I currently have 195/50/15 falken fk-452 tires on my 15x6.5 Volk TE37. they're weighted 8.8 lbs. Please correct me if i'm wrong, but because my tire diameter is less than stock, i feel like i'm not getting enough ground coverage to hit the factory rated MPG. my readings are mostly around 48mpg on the eco display.
Just FYI, I weighed my stock steelies w/Brigestone's and they came out at 31.2 pounds IMO there are several wheels out there that hit all three points nicely, but then again I like the two wheels I chose for my car, so I'm biased. Your tire size is 22.7" diameter, 1.3" shorter than stock, which is huge. 70 MPH indicated is actually 66.1 MPH with those tires. A more appropriate tire size would be 195/60-15, which is what I'm running for my 3-season setup. Big props for running TE37's though, those are hot wheels! You have any pictures on the forum?
Thanks! I have a bad cloudy day pic at the bottom of my introduction thread. My first C3 and belated project | PriusChat It's been raining all week here in SF area. I will take some better ones when the sun comes back out. Once i wear out these tires, i'll definitly pickup some 195/60/15 RR tires. thanks for the tip since the weight matters greatly for our cars, I think Volk wheels especially the "gramlight" are good to run. although they are pricy but worth it.
Oops! Despite having searched several times before, only just now found F8L's opinion that the alloys are between 15.5 & 16.5 lbs. Still, if anyone knows for sure, I'd like to hear it. Thanks again.
