I added a little weight to the back of my car. 2 50 lb sandbags, one over each wheel. Really helped with the sliding around...
thanks. i wasn't sure what the bolt pattern of the rims were 5x100, etc. (i thought from reading about picking up a doughnut/spare that older priuses (prii?) had different rims/sizes). i had been turned off to the idea of studs (they wear out quickly, "not good" when there is no snow, added cost, etc), but if you've been driving a prius safely since 2006 on them upstate, maybe it's worth the investment. (i was thinking about going *gulp* second hand for the winter tires/rims, and studs seem like they would be near impossible to find) thanks for the previous and any following info. j
My studded tires I just gave to one of my students at work (he needed winter tires and he drive a Toyota) still had LOTS of stud/tire tred use left on them and I used that set for 3 winters. I don't find that studs wear out quickly at all. Before that, I had a Mercury Sable and ran studs/snows on them for 6 winters. Good luck. GG
