    Hello all,
I'm a new Prius V owner and have enjoyed the first week with this car. I'm a bit confused though about the "Sticker" canadian milage ratings VS the USA ones. They do not seem to add up. The sticker says 4.3 L/100KM in the city and 4.8 on the highway in canada.
Now the USA, they are rated for 44MPGs in the city and 40MPGs on the highway. That works out to 5.3l/100 KM in the city and 5.9L/100K on the highway based on switching the unit of measure from http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ to L/100KM.

    Am I missing something?

I'm happy with what i am getting right now (5.1L/100KM) , but I'm a nerd and want to understand the differences.

thanks, and happy to be part of this new community. I've been learking for weeks as I reasearched a lot before buying this car.

Nope, Halirob properly accounted for that.

I believe the answer is that the Canadian MPG scale is very similar the US EPA scale from the mid-1980s to 2007. When the US changed its scale in 2008, significantly reducing the label figures, Canada did not follow suit.

I'll slowly back away from the question and enjoy the 5.1L I'm getting. I'm utilizing fuelly as well, and my numbers seem to be on par with others

this is exacly right, in Canada we still use the old method, 70 km/h downhill both ways, in the US, the test is winter/summer/HWY at 70 mph, merging on the traffic, the numbers they come up with is real numbers, instead of our fictitius numbers. I sent an email to the Canadian Departement of Transportation, suggesting to them that they should follow the US model, they told me that they would change to the US model in 2014, please check out this URL:
