Hi there, I have a standard PriucsC, someone posted the wheel rims are aluminium?? Is this true? Is a new set of alloy rims better for fuel economy?
I just bought a set of 15" OEM steel Scion rims. I was surprised at how light they are when tireless.
If your wheels have hubcaps, they are steel. Some alloy wheels actually weigh more than these steel. Use search function for answers to most questions. This will get you started: Installing Aftermarket Wheels on the c | PriusChat
Just some questions regarding the new rims: 1. There is mention of some sensor in the wheels, if I get new rims that aren't installed by a Toyota dealer, will they know of these sensors? (I am in Australia, are they part of the Australian Prius C?) 2. The rim shop doesn't have the Toyota rim caps, do Toyota dealers sell them? The guy mentioned getting a sticker to cover the rim caps that come with the 'Speedy' brand rims, but that sounds crap! Thanks.
We do not have the Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), so you don't need to worry about that. For what it's worth, Toyota Australia does have an alloy wheel set available as an official accessory - it's not the same as what comes with the i-tech model... it actually looks a lot more... well... brutal.
