New Prius owner with an odd mirror question

    Just getting used to the new Prius. It's mostly going pretty well but the rear view is a bit hard to get used to. I use my side mirrors a lot. I live in a house with a long drive that has drops on either side. When I try to back out using the side mirrors, I get this odd affect that looks like I'm not going straight. I notice the same thing when a car is passing, it seems that they are getting closer to me. Anyone notice this?

    Also the driver's position is usually on the left side, that's why using the side mirrors only (when backing) needs an additional experience - same as the big truck drivers have. Pity that you are not equipped with backing camera - it helps a lot.
    BTW - the remark on side mirrors "Objects in mirror are closer ...etc..." does not exist in European cars. Interesting.

    Thanks for the reply. I have the rear view camera. The problem is that I have a longish twisty driveway with a 2 foot drop on each side. My last car I was able to back out using the mirrors but the Prius gives me this weird view that I'm moving toward the edge. Like I said, I notice the same when cars are passing me, it looks like they're moving into me. Is it just me? lol

    Yes. It's pretty disconcerting on the driver's side when a car is passing.

    The rear view camera gives also some deformation of the picture, like a kind of fish-eye lenses. But agree with spiderman - I more frequently scratch my wheel's sides of the curbs than with my previous car :eek:

    I noticed on my '12 that the driver mirror is whacked, as if it isn't made correctly. If I do more than glance at it, it's like I'm looking through a bad prescription glasses lense. Depth perception isn't easy with it, instead I mounted a small wide-angle and trust that more. I think about taking it back to Toyota but I'm not too upset over it, look at it as just an oddity.

    The panoramic side mirrors are slightly split for two parts to extend horizontal view. Same I have in my old minivan.

    Yea, it is hard to get used to it. I just bought mine to. It is very different from other vehicles. But i like how Toyota made it so there are not to many blind spots. Did you notice the windows when they go up? They slow down at about 90% of the way up?

    [Hello All,
    Prius V 5, 2012.
    The Driver Side Mirror has a movement between the door mount and the case. Everything else is working. Is there some maintenance that can be performed to remove the movement/vibration?
    I do have tools and do aviation maintenance so I think I might be able to do this job. I just do not have Prius Knowledge.
