That is goofy. With my purchase, they included the sales tax in the financing and then sent me a cashier's check for that amount by fedex within a week (took that long to arrange the transport company and gave time for the rust proofing and paint protection work at the dealer). I put that in the bank and wrote my own check for saltes tax when I registered in MN yesterday. I had to make a trip to the DMV here. The MN Prius dealer told me that he takes care of all registration for out of state buyers himself (Iowa, Nebraska, ND, SD etc.).

BTW my offer still stands, if anyone out-of-state is buying a PiP in the Syracuse area, and you are flying in, I'll come pick you up at the airport and will drive you to the dealership (Burdick & Romano are the big ones in this area).

[quote="Only hitch is that they collected WI sales tax and will not give it back until I send them proof of WI registration and payment. So I have to front the tax twice before they send me back a check for the WI tax that they collected in NY. Something goofy about that. Any NY buyers have a similar story?[/quote]

We bought in New York at West Herr Toyota. They collected Wisconsin tax, and gave us a check written out to Wisconsin DMV at the same time. It worked great. We took the check in and got our WI temp plates when we got home. I am thinking about going back there for another one...

That is exactly what I was led to believe would be the case when left for NY. But never got the check and now they are refusing to release my funds until I show I have paid the WI DMV. Not only does it not show good faith, and complete lack of trust (as if I'm going to refuse to register it in my home state), but I doubt they are authorized to go rogue and sequester my funds without some legal foundation. This just sounds like a ham fisted, made-up local policy. I'm not going to reveal the name of the dealer until I talk to the individual that administers this policy. Could be a low level misunderstanding of their processes. This and "forgetting" that the all weather mats were part of the written deal. They are sending me the mats. Otherwise it was a good transaction but there was no reason they should have dropped the ball on these two issues. I had continuous contact for ten days and these two things did not need to happen. I have absolutely no leverage to get the mats or my money--except for exposure. But I'll give them a chance to perform before I speculate on the outcome.
