Hi guys, Can anyone recommend a good tire gauge - I picked up a digital one last night from Canadian Tire and it was beyond horrible. I don't mind paying for it online. Thanks.
Best I can say is just find one that is accurate. I have been using the same one for almost 20 years because I know it is accurate. It was just a relatively cheap plastic dial type. The stick versions are very inaccurate. Just get one and take it someplace that has a known good guage and compare it.
I've tried a decent digital gauge, basically just to test my others. That said, a good quality, pencil type can't be beat imho. As long as it's got the pressure range you need, and is easy to seat on the valve (this can make/break the gauge value, I have one lemon), they never break, are dependable.
I bought an AccuGauge analog tire gauge with a 0-60 psi scale in order to be able to read the 40 psi I run more precisely. This gauge also has a pressure release button so you can release air without having to remove the gauge. You can find one on Amazon or Ebay.
I use one like this. Auto Meter 2343 Auto Meter Tire Pressure Gauge It is small, easy to read and has the pressure release button that some like to use. Much easier to use than a pencil style gauge. You can find cheaper versions for less than $12 at most auto stores. I've had bad luck with digital gauges. They usually last a year or so then break.
I've been using a similar style like the one F8 suggested...I purchased it back in the late eighties for use on motorcycles, very accurate and still in use today. Snap-on TPGF60, Tire Pressure Gauge, with Hose, Dial-Type, 5 to 60 psi Whatever you do don't buy digital made by Slime, it's a good looking gauge but highly inaccurate.
Hi there. I have used one of these for 2 years now, accurate, works. Only PIA is a battery. For the price, A+ http://www.amazon.com/dp/product/B00139YMUQ?tag=priuschatcom-20
It's in the May issue, page 49. Can't view it on line without a sub. Top ratings were: Accutire MS-4400B $11 Accutire MS-4021B $10 Both digital.
I've been using the Accutire digital gauge from Sears for 5+ years and the battery is holding up. It's been found accurate when checked against a few other gauges. I like the gauge so much, I give them as gifts to my family. It's a good gauge to double check that my compressor gauge is still correct.
I have one like this made by Slime. Got it at an auto store. I like the pressure release feature. Sixty PSI is a good range for my use which is about 40 PSI. My understanding is that guages are most accurate in the mid range. As with any digital or analog guage make sure it doesn't get dropped or banged around in a toolbox. That could cause it to get out of calibration.
Accutire Digital Tire Pressure Gauges receives top ratings from Consumer Reports Magazine. The Accutire MS-4400 B topped the Ratings. They are very accurate on testing, so I believe in the results of the test. Tire Gauge | Facebook
Sears had the Accutire MS-4021B back when I got mine. It's been mucho years and it's still working great..
