Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I might be affected. For the Gen2 owners in the group, head here ==> Toyota Safety Recall and Car Service Information
I can confirm that my '07 (manuf. 11/06) is affected by the steering recall. I'm wondering if this will solve the mysterious (and oft-ignored by dealers) clunking sound coming from the front end. I can also feel a light thump in the steering wheel when turning over at slow speed. This was explained previously as "free-play" in the linkages. I'm hopeful that both symptoms will be corrected.
I'm affected too. Can you imagine driving one day, turning the wheel to the left and the car goes to the right?! It reminds me of some cartoons where the character pulls the steering wheel out, looks at it, and then realizes a second later he's SOL....haha!!
Timing is everything: The water pump went out on my 2007 Prius about 6 months ago, and cost me a couple of hundred dollars to repair. At the time, the service guy was not surprised, as he said there was a bulletin out and they had seen a bunch of them go out. NOW they're recalling them. Anyone have any thought on how to get my money refunded? Read more: http://priuschat.com/threads/recall-on-water-pump-and-steering-shaft.118203/#ixzz2CiGfUER8
If you are referring to the inverter coolant pump, all you have to do is to write to the Toyota Customer Experience Center in Torrance, CA, providing a copy of your repair invoice and your request for a refund. The recall notice will also invite you to apply for reimbursement. If you are referring to the engine coolant pump, that is not covered by this recall.
According to the letter I received in the mail yesterday "If you have previously paid for repairs to your vehicle for these specific conditions prior to receiving this letter, we will provide you instructions for reimbursement consideration in the second owner letter once the remedy preparations are completed." I would go to www.toyota.com and register so you can get the owners updates, and more recall information and specific instructions on how to get a refund. The letter also says: "To update your cehicle ownership or contact information you may do so by registerint at www.toyota.com/ownersupdate You will need your full 17-digit Vechicle Identification Number (VIN) to input the new information." www.toyota.com/recall Recall #C2T - Steering Intermediate Extension Shaft Recall # C1U - Hybrid Electric Water Pump Hope that helps.
http://www.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/resources/recalls Safety Recall C0U (C1U) Interim Notice - Hybrid Electric Water Pump At the present time, Toyota is currently preparing the remedy. What is the Condition? There is a possibility that the coil wire of the electric motor installed in the Water Pump for the Hybrid System may have been scratched during the coiling manufacturing process at the supplier. In this condition, the coil wire may corrode at the scratched portion and in some cases break. If this occurs, the water pump could stop, leading to the illumination of various warning lights in the instrument panel. In limited instances, a short circuit can occur between adjacent coil wires, resulting in an open fuse for the electric power supply circuit. If the fuse is open, the hybrid system will stop while the vehicle is being driven, which may increase the risk of an accident. When will the Remedy be Available: The remedy procedures will be provided to each dealership shortly. At which time, Toyota will notify owners of covered vehicles by first class mail. Additional information will be posted on this site once the remedy is available. Safety Recall C0T (C2T - Phase 2) Interim Notice - Steering Intermediate Extension Shaft At the present time, Toyota is currently preparing the remedy. What is the Condition? The steering shaft system of the subject vehicles consists of a steering intermediate shaft assembly, steering sliding yoke sub assembly, and steering intermediate extension shaft assembly. Due to insufficient hardness of the extension shaft supplied by a specific supplier, the splines which connect the extension shaft to the steering gear box may deform if the steering wheel is frequently and forcefully turned to the full-lock position while driving at a slow speed. This may create an increased backlash, and splines may eventually wear out over time, which could result in loss of steering ability. When will the Remedy be Available: The remedy procedures will be provided to each dealership shortly. At which time, Toyota will notify owners of covered vehicles by first class mail. Additional information will be posted on this site once the remedy is available.
I have replaced. My inverter coolant pump on my 2008. Twice. If your car goes completely dead? Check the fuse for the inverter pump. Unplug the pump and put in a spare (10 amp?) I think. Drive short runs to get to service. Pump is cheap.
