Hi all, I found this thread here USB Port won't recognize MP3 Player | PriusChat about this issue. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with the 2012 prii? I have been using my iPod through the AUX jack for a week (as long as I've owned the car, a Prius 2012 trim 2), and today I tried plugging it into the USB port to test the iPod connectivity and control. The USB tab remained gray. I tried turning the car off and on again, no dice. Any thoughts?
My radio stopped recognizing the usb port. I got a new radio under warranty. Let your dealer deal with it.
Try formatting the USB drive again. I had a similar issue in my wife's RX350 and formatting it fixed the issue.
workin with an iPod here actually. /UPDATE/ I was able to get it to work today, after attempting to use an Apple brand usb/dock cable. It works....kind of. if the cable is bumped at all, it disconnects. I will still have the dealer take a look at it. Does this USB/iPod connectivity and Control feature work for anyone with non-apple usb cables?
I have seen non apple cables not work, also check you case, some cases do not allow the cable to atteched to the device correctly, thus giving bad results
\RESOLVED\ I found the problem; Some aftermarket Apple "Dock" to USB cables are Sync and Charge, some are only Charge. When you look at aftermarket cables, some will be advertised to do both, some will only say "Charge." The cable I was using was part of a car charger kit (pretty neat charger actually, it plugs into the car lighter, and it can plug into a wall outlet, with a detachable USB cable, so it can charge any USB devices). I tested the cable independently to try to transmit data to my computer, and it did not work. It would charge the iPod through the computer's USB port, but the computer would not recognize a device was connected.
