just wanted to say hi and ask a few questions.... we just picked up our first Prius Friday night. We put about 275 miles on it over the weekend, only plugging in three times (though once ended up being only for about an hour), but we've managed to get around 59mpg so far; most (85-90%) of the driving was highway. Was kind of cool going down a hill and seeing the EV miles rise as we went down it ;) ....of course plummeted the other way :(.

    So on-to some questions....

    1) Does anyone know how to get into the service menu? Gray-ed out features as a passenger were just a pain.
    2) Is the charger water proof? How does everyone normally store it? I can mount it to the house, but it would be exposed to the elements all the time, or I could just always put it in the storage spot. I won't need to take it with me now because not many places in NH nor where I work have chargers.
    3) Is there a way to get new apps via entune? I keep seeing in the manual items like Calendar, Email, and other apps that I don't see on our car.
    4) We initially test-drove a non-plugin and it had a thing where you could fill up and tell it how much $ you paid and it would then later tell you about your $$ savings. Does the plugin have a similar feature?

Well I'm going to go read a bunch of other forums, maybe I can find some of my answers to the above and answers to questions I don't yet have :) I haven't had time to play around with everything thanks to the lock-out while my wife is driving and I was the passenger.

    Thanks!

I figured out how to get into the service menu (but I couldn't find any settings to allow me to change the grey-ed out boxes while the car is in motion; maybe I was in the diag menu not service menu? I held down audio while turning the lights on/off), received the info on the waterproof "nature" of the charger, and got a bit more info on entunes. Didn't see any info on how the computer is different between the PIP and non-PI, but I guess it is just different software.

there's a kit available on priuschat store that allows you to use the PIP display while the car is in motion, it "fools" the PIP into thinking the car is not moving.

I have the speedlock override....pretty cool to watch a slideshow on a long drive if ya like. makes entering things on the fly easy, as the voice recognition can be off many times.

As to the last point, no, unfortunately there's no way to enter this info. Guess the idea is that you shouldn't be using gas at all lol.

Lol, I wish. The electric is nice getting me to the expressway from my house, but even the PiP needs a bit more range before I could do this; luckily I am going from working from home 2 days a week to 3 days a week. Our weekend road trip to my mother-in-laws house netted 59mpg over 280 miles with only 1.5 charges [we had to interrupt the last charge after an hour and a half]; so I cannot complain from the fact we had a 30 mpg vehicle before this.

The charger (I'm assuming you mean the black relay/control box at the male plug end) is not water-proof meaning it can't be submerged in water- but it is water resistant meaning regular rain won't bother it. It's also GFI protected.
The J1772 blue end that plugs into the car is also water resistant. The system is designed to have no dangerous voltage at the blue end until it connects to the car and the car sends a signal to the black relay/control box (at the male plug end) to send the 120v (or 240v if you're plugged directly into a 240v charging station) to the car. When the charge is complete- the car send a signal to the relay/control box to disconnect from the 120v/240v source so once again there is no dangerous voltage present at the blue handle end. If you need to disconnect before the charge is complete- once you press the silver lock release lever on the blue handle, it sends a signal to disconnect from the 120v/240v mains. So once again- there is no dangerous voltage present at the blue handle end.
    It's a pretty robust system...

For cordset storage- I got a small 12" too bag from Harbor Freight for $3.99 - I keep the cord in there. While it does fit in a 12" bag- a 14" bag would be better requiring less of a bend of the cables into and out of the control/relay box.

Oh, hey- congrats on the PIP- it's an awesome vehicle! What color did you get?

Yeah, I don't plan to submerge it in water, but wasn't sure if it was outside how it'd work in the rain, but most of the reading seems to indicate it is OK. We'll probably just put it into the storage bin in the back without a bag; or find something in the house.

It's some marketing-name of metalic-white that they charge an extra $250 for :) It is in the shop today for the enviroguard (we have a 2 yr old who likes throwing stuff on seats), but tomorrow will be my first commute to work in it. I now have to start my quest to get charging receptacles at work :)

The Blizzard Pearl is a 3-step process; white base/metallic pearl/clear-coat. The non pearl paints are only two step process; paint/clear-coat. The pearl finishes take more time and materials to finish.
