Does anyone have their windows tinted? If so, did you buy it that way or is it better to use a third party afterwards?
All tint is "third party", I would think. Well, apart from the in-the-glass from the factory tint. (It's off-topic, and a very debatable topic, so I won't venture my opinion on tinting.)
Thanks for that. Shows how much I know about tint. I'm meeting with a dealer today in the process of buying a C. I guess I won't bring up the tint thing and look around to get it done afterwards?
The dealership would just run it over to a tinting place. It might be more convenient, though. Wait and see is a good idea, even just to see how it is without extra tint.
I got mine done aftermarket at sun shield tinting on Van Nuys Blvd & the 101. They have a lot of different products you can check out there. Like anything, there are cheaper tints you can buy, or you can get something a little more pricey that has more functionality like IR and heat rejection.
$200 for 5% on the rear doors & hatch glass, 50% on the front doors and an 8 inch band on the windshield. Tint, Inc. in Antioch next to Costco. Their facebook page: TINT INC | Facebook
Mine are tinted. Can't tell you what % they are. It appears that the front windows and rear windows are slightly different. Came this way from the dealer (they said they do it to all their cars).. I would never have considered putting a tint on it myself... But I'm thrilled with the look!
Mine is tinted from a local shop for all around including the windshield for $210 tax included: - 5% rear and back passengers windows. - 15% front driver and front passenger windows. - 70% whole windshield.
I had mine tinted in Wincos: Automotive | Madico Window Films & Specialty Films (front) #M crystalline: 3M United States: Scotchgard Automotive Protection: Auto Dealerships: Products: Window Film: 3M™ Crystalline Window Films (back) I would have preferred Wincos all around but that stuff expensive, so I used crystalline on the back.
I think Toyota makes the "C" with the glass already tinted. You can't legally tint the front glass any more than it is. And there is so little glass in the rear why bother? I mean really, all there is to tink is the tiny rear windows and they already are tinted
Where do you live? Tint like that here is a "cop magnet". Yes people do it and I notice many of the shops offer to remove it for free if you get a ticket. The fine now is $250 per window. That would be $750 if your car is driven in California and on top of that you'd have to remove the tint and show that it was removed. Yes I know some people get away with it, and they get away with running stop signs to, just a matter of luck.
Yes, I know and I'm living in SoCal. I always look around for cops and in several times I rolled down front windows when they're in sight. While waiting for my tint job there was a customer coming in asking about removing tint with only 35% front so I know with 15% of my front won't get away from any cop but: - I drive on the right lane. - Always at speed limit or lower. - And I'm driving a Prius.
OK so you know this could cost you over $1,000. (cost of the tint plus the fine plus the cost to have it removed and then I assume reapplied after it is inspected) What's the advantage of the darker glass?
I don't know that many people to get puled over because a cop saw their windows. More likely you get pulled over for speeding or something and the cop goes through and writes you up for all your illegal turn signal bulbs and tinted windows and you get hit with a huge ticket. Thats why I keep it within the law now, I had one of those nights traveling through ventura.
The first time its not a big deal, just an infraction, but then its on your record that you got the fix it ticket and if it happens again you get a misdemeanor.
I bargained with my dealer to include tinted windows in the sale price (worth $455) .. ( and throw in the floor mats aswell ). Professionals did the job at Toyota's Service Centre, soon as my new 'C' arrived. The tint I chose is "dark street legal"...and ONLY Toyota offered me a Lifetime Warranty on it. SWEET!
You're right. Mine is already tinted (I didn't know) and I guess I'm pretty happy with it just the way it is. BTW, I'm completely in love with my new C!
