why is my ICE starting???

This has happened twice now.....

cool mornings, approx 30f.

Leave my house, EV mode full charge....heater OFF with foot and defrost icon showing.

I press peddle slightly about 1000ft from my house, HSI rises to approx 40% only.

ICE STARTS!

If the heater is OFF, but settings are left at foot/defrost and fresh air(not recirc) is this triggering ICE?

Only happened two times, when coldest out. any milder temps no issue.

no not even close....i run the ICE every drive pretty much...

I was wondering, I have the heater set to 85 degrees before i turn it off....do we have to turn TEMP down to LO in addition to turning entire climate control OFF? That would seem odd.

no, no light on def.....just the ICON of feet and DEF on screen but no light.

I thought maybe the fact the DEF/FOOT icon was on it had something to do with it.

I think the two times this happened, it was showing foot and DEF. on image. with fresh air. I wonder if it thinks i need def due to this and starts ICE cause its cold out? but if heater is OFF i dont think this matters.

what is the difference between DEF with light on(button)......

OR

DEF on the icon screen,where foot, face ect is.

why would it wait til im 1000ft down my road? and why would it wait til i accelerate to approx 40% HSI? very odd. It has never happened right away when i leave, it happens 3-4 mins into the drive.

My car is in a garage, it was not frosted at all....I just happen to always leave my icon set to foot and DEF from previous drive.

It seems to me, if heater is OFF, no matter what its OFF...but is it really off? odd

 

If it is OFF why would it calculate inside temps?

I wonder if the previous setting(85f) is somehow calling for heat, even though heater is totall OFF.

when you guys turn your heater off, do you turn temp down first, then off?

unheated garage, typically same as outside temp or colder if sun is out like today....

I wonder if the heater is OFF entirely or do we also need to turn temp down to LO also? that does not make sense though

 

once fan is on, even lowest, the system is ON....i keep mine OFF entirely until i want heat, then i am ready for ice to run.

i just hate that is started twice now right when i leave...when i want to drive EV for 13miles first!

Is there a possibility the cold temps, take a toll on 12v battery and it starts ICE to charge it?

I guess ill have to try it with just foot icon showing in OFF mode.....

then If it still does it Ill turn temp down to LO before going into OFF mode. that is pain in nice person though cause when you want heat then you gotta tap temp button all the way back up to 85.
