In anticipation of getting "ICE'd" one day at my local ChargePoint station- Has anyone seen or considered building a simple J1772 connector extension cable? It needs a male J1772 connector on one end and a female J1772 connector on the other end. 25' length would probably suffice.. Like the J1772 male with 25ft cable from Leviton with a female connector on the other end... Currently I just keep a 50' 12ga 120v extension cable in the car to use with my 120v Toyota cordset if I get "ICE'd" but I'd rather go with 240v if I can...
I think that your idea is the most economically viable solution. Have you been ICE'd at the court house yet?
No... but I'm just one car away from it every morning because the same D-bag with a ghetto Lexus SUV still parks in the far right Chargepoint spot every morning- for all day long from 8am till he goes home at 4-4:30pm. One morning I was ICE'd but the driver of the other SUV was still in her car and I politely asked her to move so I could charge my car. Unfortunately, I seem to have developed a slight case of ICE'd anxiety on my drive in to work knowing that there's just one charge spot open every morning (due to the Lexus D-bag) and that if I don't arrive at my regular time it will quickly be filled by another ICE SUV if I arrive a few min late due to traffic, etc delays. That's the reason I'm interested in an extension cable that will reach to the next parking spot to the left of the charging station.
It's not a tow away zone- it's regular parking with a single white line between spots. Here's the photos I took a few weeks ago.. (the Lexus SUV parks in the righthand spot every morning, I park directly in front of the green sign when charging) and here's the simple sign.. Yeah, he is... Unfortunately, he's not breaking the law- because the parking spots are not marked as special in any way- there's just a small green sign behind them stating "Electric Vehicle Charging Station". There nothing prohibiting anyone without an EV from parking there any time or for as long as they like.
the location of the sign is confusing since the station seems to be covering two spots. have you spoken to the authorities who put the station in?
A J-1772 extension cord is costly to build, $133 for the J-1772 handle with 25' of cable attached, and that eBay link for the female J-1772 connector is another $100 Is is it worth spending $233 to you on this? You also need to put that female connector in a box and wire it up... 30 Amp J1772 Level 2 Electric Vehicle Charge Connector with 25 Ft. Cord, A3435-PEV : J1772 Charge Connector and Cable
Suppose the person ICEing the spot is a senior judge or something like that? Good luck trying to enforce any parking restrictions on them
The spot on the right technically doesn't have a sign, maybe you can talk to someone and have them put a sign on that spot too? And technically it's not an EV only spot. So there's nothing there saying he can't park there...
