I am 6'4 and would like more visibility out of the windshield. I read that flipping the rear view mirror is a good way to accomplish this. I have a 2004 Prius with a non-homelink mirror. I can flip it upside down, but I cannot angle it properly to see out of the back window (can only see the backseat, which does me no good). Any tips? This seems like a common mod people do.
I'm 6'2" - did the mod/flip but with no problems of seeing out the back window...but mine does have the homelink. I'll take a picture 2mrw.. not sure if that'll help but who knows. Don't think it should make much difference on the type of rear-view mirror.
Sorry for the delay..so not sure about torso comparison but...anyways.. At the highest point, I can't even see out the back. Normal Setting for me: !bonus G3 on the freeway beside me! Here the mirror is at the lowest setting: Not sure how that'll help, hope it does.
I heard about that mod too... never tried it. Try and adjust the stem that connects the mirror to the windshield mount. Since ours is non-home link ours might be more adjustable than the mirrors with the homelink. I have mine down and over to the right to allow my NAV system to sit directly to the left of the rear view mirror... I'll try and flip my mirror around tomorrow morning and see if that makes a difference on a non-home link mirror... I'll also take a picture of the windshield mout and backside of the mirror.
Justdidit, Thanks for the pics. I don't know why, but I never understood this "mod". Simple! I tried it (I have a Homelink mirror) and it does help my visibility. Still not great (one of my chief complaints of the Prius, I've almost gotten in a few accidents due to not seeing a car coming from the right side), but better....
Finally got it to work! Thanks for the pictures. I had to adjust the stem going from the window to the mirror. I had to use some serious elbow grease. I think this is really going to help. As a side note, while doing this I made an interesting discovery in my car that I posted about here: Just discovered previous owner did a modification to the interior overhead light assembly | PriusChat
