Actually says the thread author...they don't call them "excuses" for nothing. Only the "conservatives" need an excuse for buying a Prius. "Liberals" need an excuse for buying anything else.

Here is one if anybody asks. I don't like sitting on the gas lines on Long Island, because 70% of the stations don't have electricity to pump gas and my Prius still has about 400 miles left in the tank.

There are 530K customers (not people) still without electric. After Sandy, it's very difficult to get gas. Typical lines are 1/2 mile long. I even saw long lines next to a station that was waiting for a delivery. Hopefully this will end by Sunday. The tankers weren't able to safely navigate the waters, because the buoys were all screwed up. Supposedly that was cleared up yesterday.

I project Prius sales will go up in this area!

I traded my fully paid off, 2005 Tacoma with 126K miles for a 2010 Prius III with 60K miles, Leather, Backup Camera, Climate Control, JBL upgrade that gives me almost triple the fuel efficiency, higher safety ratings, and more room for my growing family.

The Prius is a straight upgrade for my family's wants and needs and the only thing it's costing me is $10 more each month in insurance (which is paid for by the gas money I'm saving). It was a no brainer as far as I'm concerned.

You have a label for everyone. Liberal or Conservative. It's amazing how divisive you are trying to be. Just like someone else I know.

I don't have to wait in 2.5 hour lines in the gas station after Hurricane Sandy. (I live in New Jersey.)

Gas lines are now in Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties in NY. I have a 2 week supply in my Prius.

I traded in my 2002 Ford Thunderbird to purchase a new 2011 Toyota Prius. With my commute it wasn't hard for anyone to understand why I purchased it. I bought it on January 8th (the King's birthday) and I've already put 26k miles on it since then.

I apologize if this site is already well known, but has anyone used this "Green Car Calculator?

    Girls, girls! You're both pretty.

    My excuses.
    1. Mass transit is not offered from my home to work. It's too far to walk, I'm too old/tired for a bike and a motorcycle is out of the question for Indiana winters. I need a car.
    2. I wanted to minimize the amount of gasoline I use. (Choosing the reason is left as an exercise for the reader.)
    3. I am an engineer and really appreciate the technology of the hybrid.
    4. I am an engineer and was initially skeptical about the efficiency and longevity of the batteries. I am a believer now.
    5. I work for an engineering company. Everyone here understands these reasons.
    6. For the life of me, I can't think of a political reason for my choice.

Me too! It was bothering me every time I hit the brakes in my Highlander. (I could of had a V8... no that's not what I mean, I have a V8.) I could have been charging the battery to use in the EV mode.

Now if I can just keep my eye on the road instead of the wonderful displays :)

I know what you mean. I replaced a dying Equinox with the Prius. I played the "maximize the mileage" game with it every time I drove it. It killed me to hit the brakes. Now not so much.

I understand "Pulse and Glide" but I'm more into relatively constant speed and using EV where convenient. The folks behind me probably appreciate that too.

My primary excuse (because everyone already knows the Prius gets the best MPG on the market) is "BECAUSE IT'S SO PRETTY!" :)
