I was interested in this car based on a few reviews I read back in March. With the gallon price for premium hitting $5.00/gal in CA, my long commute, and my car getting under 20mpg in the winter, it was time to get a Prius. I got the c one model and paid $18,800 including destination. It's been a two weeks and nearly 1K miles. I've averaged about 50 mpg combined with 75% highway driving. A few pics I took: I was curious as to what it looked like from the bottom. More pics:
Is an excellent example of a sub frame. The main frame (unibody) is grey, the shiny black sub frame attaches the front suspension and engine/transaxle. (aluminum)
I really like the photos of the undercarriage of the car. My C4 will arrive at the dealership on Monday or Tuesday so as yet, no chance to crawl under the car and check it out. The last photo of the ten shows the heat recovery device in which engine coolant is warmed by the exhaust gases as they leave the catalytic converter. As an engineer, I wonder how exhaust gas heat recovery is stopped (ended) when the engine is warmed up. The last thing you want is to recover heat in an already hot engine and the radiator is being used to dump heat to the atmosphere. If you simply stop coolant flow to the heat exchanger, stagnant coolant around the exhaust is going to get very, very hot. Perhaps there is a value in the exhaust pipe to divert air over the heat exchanger. In any event, I can see this heat exchanger shortening the life of the engine coolant.
Congrats and thanks for the pics! Keep in mind we are on winter blend fuel now so that combined with cooler temps means you won't see max fuel economy until next April.
I do, however, find it amazing on how Toyota abandoned supplying the previously included mid-chassis brace on all "c's." In fact, I've seen only one on a "c," and that was a very strong four bolt one. Did your Prius"c" come with a mid-chassis under brace? | Page 3 | PriusChat They install the mounts but NO brace. Even the cheaper Yaris, on which the "c" is based, has a brace installed on each and every one that I've looked under.
Awesome pics! Congratulations on the new car!! I was thinking of getting the C1 but it doesn't have cruise control and with my long commute CC is a must. Thanks for the pics!
I do sort of regret not getting it, but there is too much traffic on my commute to use it for more than 1-2 miles at a time. I do see a kit on eBay that looks like it will work if I want to add it later. Toyota Prius C 2012 Cruise Control Kit | eBay
Lucky!!!! I wanted a C1, but none available. Now I am stuck with a C2. . I just didn't feel like paying extra for split rear seat and cruise control. In my mind, the C1 is the very definition of a hybrid econo car. Everything you need, nothing you don't. Actually, I'd go without the electric windows. LOL.
...especially when you get get the cruise control handle now for about $13 online! Super easy to add cruise to C1!
Looks really good, and the undercarriage looks amazingly clean, how you keep it like that? And since this post is from nov 4, 2012, may i ask if you still have this vehicle?
