Yesterday I had my 10k oil change courtesy of Toyota. I asked what a synthetic oils change costs, in this case Toyota 0W20 and a Toyota oil filter. They told me their fee is $47.

Yep, way over my head there. However from personal experience in a 00' Dodge Ram and 12' Audi Q5, The lower weight and viscosity RP has increased power and economy above the gains I'd seen in a comparable M1 full synthetic. As for tests, I'd found some 3-4 years back when I was really researching what oil I wanted to use long term but I don't remember where it was and couldn't refer you to it now..

I did find this http://royalpurpleconsumer.com/assets/2012-2013_Catalog_030912.pdf and it has some interesting info about the oils with side-by-side comparisons. Of course the info is biased so take it for what it's worth. You are correct, the 0-20 wasn't the 'racing' grade, guess I was mistaken there. But the pdf found at that link does have lots of interesting products (RP gun cleaning oil??)

As for my yota when I purchased the car the dealer offers a free oil changes and inspections for the life of the car or as long as the original purchaser of the car owns it. So I just take the car back to the dealer. As for my other car it takes 0w-20 synthetic blend I taker it to the local Goodyear they do a rotation and synthetic blend valvoline oil change and wix filter for $34. I couldn't buy the valvoline oil and filter for that price and then have to do the rotation myself. The best part they let you watch if u want.
