Just because they didn't include a feature you want, it doesn't mean Toyota doesn't care about you. The product managers review all the possible features, rank them in importance, and gauge customer acceptance and meet the target price. Maybe they felt it was a safety feature whose effectiveness is unproven. Maybe they couldn't make a regulatory requirement in time. Maybe they didn't want customers to deal with even more expensive rear view mirror replacement costs. Hyundai thought you'd like shiny flashy lightbulbs, and Toyota thought you'd like the redesigned taillights. Personally, I'm not sure if I want to look at bright flashing lights on my rear view mirror when I'm looking into my rear view mirror at night.
I actually think that it looks too busy as well but with a couple of kids and the general distain with which the American public treats cars parked near them in parking lots, both the side moldings and the door edge guards were put on specifically to help against door dings (both for and against). Unfortunately, I did not know of the tapered moldings when I was looking for protection, I do think they go better with the overall design than the straight ones. It does seem that Sparks and Daytona represent several different things than I have seen from other dealers...wonder why they do such a good job of sourcing things that other dealers do not?
Great mods! I, like you, spent a lot of time browsing before buying anything and settled on many you have done. I recently did HIDs and just ordered the LED side mirrors. No tint for me as I need as much light as possible - considering some wheels, but they would be expensive. Hopefully, I'm nearing the end of the mods, but I doubt it ... it is kind of addictive to give the car some 'personality.' Congrats! I did post some pics of mine in my thread ... http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...103064-thanks-helping-me-spend-1200-mods.html
It's simply 3M tape on the back...so no harder than cleaning with something that does not leave residue and installing. I did run the car at full heat as I was driving home because it was cool when I installed, I think they recommend 70+. (70+ is a great summer day here in the Pacific Northwest.)
May I ask what color/wood dash kit did you use? It really looks terrific-I too like the dark color and am trying to decide what to order, but most I find look red. Thank you!
