Did I ruin my EBH?

    It's been a few years since I've been able to use it. I just moved to an area that it might useful only to find it like this:

    Is it usable or salvageable?

    It looks very easily salvageable to me. Just clean the corrosion off, let it dry well, and make sure there is no residue left on the plug face between the prongs.

    It will probably work just fine as is, but that wouldn't stop me from cleaning it.

    Use isopropyl alcohol (aka rubbing alcohol) as a cleaning solvent.

    I'd clean it first with some moistened baking soda and finish it off with a cloth and some light machine oil. Cleaning it with a light oil will help prevent further corrosion.

    BTW Rxmxsh, every time I see your avatar it makes makes me so glad that animated ones are disabled on the new forums!

    If the the alcohol and baking soda aren't enough, then I'd move up to some fine sandpaper, or anything with a mild abrasion.

    Yep, steel wool is also really good if the milder solution don't work well enough. Still make sure you finish it off with a good rub of oil, or even vaseline, to prevent further corrosion.

    After clean up try putting an ohm meter across the 2 main prongs: there should be around 30~40 ohms. If it's infinite you have a problem. And if the issue is with the plug they're relatively easy to replace: cut it back a bit and solder a similar plug on. Be sure to stagger the splice locations so they're not all at the same point along the wire, and wrap everything securily.

    All else fails an old tooth brush and some gritty toothpaste will scrub that plug clean :D
