This is my first post to the forum, altho I've been lurking here for several months since acquiring my 2005 Prius II in March 05. Thanks to all who have posted info here! I have had aux battery problems as have been described here many times, and have finally convinced my dealer to install a new battery. One thing I've noticed, both before and after the new battery was installed, is that my interior lights no longer come on when I approach the car with the smart key in my pocket as I remember they used to do. All other aspects of the SKS seem to be working fine. Anyone else seen this or know how to restore this cool feature?
Someone may have flipped the switch next to the cabin lights to turn that function off. Next to the cabin lights and the built-in microphone, there is a switch that should be placed in the position that reads "door" in order for that function to work.
I don't think this is true. The interior lights come on when I'm next to my 2005 even if all doors are unlocked. There may be some electronic setting, Carlitos, that changed. If it's not the switches by the dome lights, ask your dealer for help. They should come on when you're next to your car.
I tested it before I posted, Bill. My 2005 actually goes as far as not light the interior lights if you approach the unlocked driver's door, but light them if you go around the car and approach the locked passenger door. If you lock the driver's door, everything works as expected. Could be a setting like you say, but if so I have not identified which one. About the only settings I have ever changed are the backup and seat belt beeps. I've never had anyone take a scantool to it. If yours works as you say, it might be interesting to find out what the difference is. I'd also like to hear back from carlitos about how his works...
Thanks, Bill, and everyone who replied. The cabin lights are set correctly (to "door"). I guess I'll have to contact my dealer...
Follow up... After more testing I have to agree with Wayne that lights come on iff door is locked. I've adopted the suggestion of some members here: locking the car even in the garage (to prevent aux battery rundown from inadvertently leaving a door ajar), and now my car recognizes me!
Thanks for testing that, carlitos. If anyone finds a way to change that behavior, let us know. For now you've given me an idea of something I can do. It'd doubtful I will remember to lock the car in my garage before I walk away from it, but I can press the lock icon when I put on my coat in the morning. That should help me find the door handle in my dark garage MUCH easier...
Alright! Gotta love a new member who's willing to take the suggestions and go out to test them. Good job, Carlitos. And WELCOME to Priuschat and CONGRATULATIONS on your new Prius.
