    WalMart did mine for free.:).

Please know that you can't use as "used" key fob. It has to be a "new" one with the silver Toyota logo on the back.

Walleye, I believe everyone who's reported success with SKS programming so far has done it with a NEW silver-logo fob. There are a lot of reports out there that used fobs cannot be reprogrammed easily (or at all).

Note that "uncut" just means the backup key blade is new, not that the fob hasn't been previously programmed.

    Guys,

NEW and NEVER PROGRAMMED smart key can be programmed manually(chicken dance)

USED smart can only programmed by Toyota diagnostic tool and needs a special code.

I took a used fob to toyota, they couldn't program it. Didn't charge me, if it would have worked it would have been $60 took it to lock smith he cut a new key and
programed it for $90. Smart fob off ebay, $38 with shipping. My toyota dealer
wants $145 for a new one + $60 to program.

The dealer from whom I bought my brand new Gen II key fob / transponder / transmitter is METRO TOYOTA in Cleveland.

The part cost $150+9.45 for shipping.

Here is their website: Metro Toyota Scion in Cleveland, OH | New & Used Toyota Car Dealer Serving Bedford OH, Kent & Brunswick OH

I hope this helps someone else. I may start a new thread just so that it is out there and easier to find, but I wanted to put in on this thread too, in case someone is researching and locates this particular thread.

Awesome... Thanks... Armed with details like this is the best way to walk into a dealership. When I scored my 07 Prius last January it came with two silver fobs, one of them worked, the other had the wrong metal key and didn't work. The metal key part was an easy fix, but I must of read 50,000 words trying to get that FOB to work. I tried all the different programming instructions on here and then when my sole remaining fob got screwed up in the process of programming I decided to stop.

So now my car only starts with the FOB in the slot. The doors still unlock when I reach for the handle, it's just that I really miss getting in the car and leaving my keys in my pocket the entire time! Also not having a spare set feels irresponsible... So this post gives me clarity on what I need to do, so thank you!

I'm gonna print up what you wrote and find the best dealer to do this! Anyone on the west coast know who's best? Does Luscious Garage do this?

The only easy part is that most Toyota dealers will sell / cut key blanks for $8

Read the rest of the thread for how to get the rest of the key to work... They didn't make it easy...

PriusCamper...just to clarify, you don't even have one fully operational SKS key fob now? Is that correct?

Also - do you really go camping in your Prius? :)

Yes, I do lots of car camping at rest stops on highways... And yes I did have one fully functional SKS key fob until I started doing all the programming tricks I read about on here and that's when I lost the function that allows me to start the car without putting the FOB in the slot.... Please advise!

Well first of all, I think it's cool that you use your Prius as a camper. My son wants us to do that in the worst way. I fear no one would sleep! I'd love to know how you set the car up to use as a camper..so cool.

Second and more importantly, I was able to program my Prius to accept a brand new key fob with SKS features BUT I did have one working fob with functioning SKS features.

The problem on your end is that you don't even have one fully functional SKS key fob, and I wish I could tell you how to program the original but the only thing I know for sure is that it might require the intervention of a dealer.

I'm very sorry that I can't be of more help to you...I wish I could.

There is a switch under the steering wheel that disable the SKS function. You might wanna check it out. When I first bought my car my SKS didn't work at all until my friend enable it from under the steeringwheel

Hello all, After rereading all posts related to reprogramming a new key fob and chicken dance I found a new fob on line and ordered it. I still had a working sks fob. The Chicken dance worked after a couple of tries and both the start and sks functions work just like they are supposed to. Thanks again Prius Chat for saving my behind and my hard earned cash. Thanks to all who worked on putting this thread together.

A quick update which I should have made long ago...the gentleman who suggested that the steel key within my new FOB could be cut at Walmart very inexpensively was absolutely correct. I think I paid 3.50 or so. Wonderful advice! Thank you!
