I think it's a velcro type of fastener system.

Thanks, rjparker. Do you know if you have to remove the whole seat to take off the cover, or if you can just remove the seat covers in the car?

Not sure but I think it can be done in the car. On the other hand, taking out a set of seats may be easier in the long run.

Whatever I do to modify the seats, I don't want to block the seat airbag from coming out. Does anyone know where the seat airbag would deploy from?

I continue to be uncomfortable with the front seats, so much so that I am beginning to regret my purchase. Another problem I am finding is that the headrest, even when clicked up all the way, doesn't go up high enough. Are there other headrests I could replace this with that go up higher?

I just spent $140 to rent a prius for 2 days... I have been wanting a prius for 5 years & always said I'd get one. Then I started reading about the seat issues. I can safely say, after 1/2 hour of driving the thing, I will sadly never have a prius. The head rest tilts the head forward putting undue pressure on my neck. In order to alleviate this, I tilted the seat back. This put undue pressure on my lower back & hips while putting pressure mind thigh. I SO WANTED TO LOVE THIS!

I also rented a corolla a couple of months ago & dove 600+ miles. I could barely walk after that weekend.
I drive a 2005 jetta that I love, except the thing is the biggest lemon the dealer has ever seen and am forced to get something else due to sheer terror of something else major going wrong....

    I am 5'7", 110#.

    Just my 2 cents....

Wow, seat comfort is a passionate and personal topic. Clearly, a "YMMV" issue.

For the record, the Prius v Five (SofTex) is the most comfortable and supportive driver's (and passenger's; I have sat in them both) seat and seating position I have ever experienced, and it has the best legroom and elbow room and support to boot.

Not limited to front seating, I have had the same reports from rear seat passengers.

I had the same problem - a few days after we bought our Prius v I started having shoulder and neck aches, and couldn't figure out the reason until I realized the headrest was shifting my head forward and adding strain. According to threads about this issue on lots of different car forums, there was a federally-mandated change to the headrest design, implemented to decrease head/neck injuries. However, for a significant fraction of drivers, the new design causes neck and back strain.

I solved it by pulling out the headrest, reversing it, and putting it back in. No more neck and back pain. There'll be a bit less protection against whiplash, but now I'm fine to drive.

I know this is an old thread, but I'm very discouraged by the suffering I'm experiencing from the drivers seat in my two-month-old Prius V. I thought I could adapt and adjust, and it's looking like I can't. So the only hope is finding an older car before the new headrest mandate?
Modifying the seats seems so iffy, for all the reasons stated. I so regret trading my 2003 Saturn. Paying $10k in repairs seemed like a bad idea at the time, but now seems like the better option.

Edit: I did read somewhere that swapping a headrest from a standard Prius gave some relief, so I did try that. Neck pain is reduced significantly, but mid back is still not right. The seat rounds my shoulders forward and that's just not my posture.

    YMMV

Just drove 100 miles Thursday, 100 Friday, 250 Saturday, 350 Sunday. Occasionally adjusted the lumbar support to supply variety.

Seemed comfortable to me (6', 212).

Wife not so much. She commented on the long trip she would rather take her Avalon.

Would I like a 14 way adjustable seat? Yes. I'd like more thigh support. But I chose to take it over a car that had such a feature.

    Personal body build I guess.

Don't Forget to play with the height adjustment lever, as it also changes the pitch (front to rear) of the seat. I'm 6 feet tall and I'm most comfortable with the seat hight set very high, 6 pumps from max up. When I set it lower to get my head out of the moonroof cut-out I find that I squirm more and I'm more uncomfortable.

I would guess that it is different for everybody so let's hear what hight setting works or doesn't for you. Let us know number of pumps to max up or down and how tall you are.

At 6' long torso I have the seat all the way up and all the way back on my v3.
