So ... it's bothersome that dealers play favortism? . . . well it's the dealer's dealership - last time I checked - so it's theirs to do with as they wish right? And as for handouts - why begrudge a dealership Comping a couple bucks of electricity - if you truly want to stop handouts - start a letter writing campaign to your congressman. Insist that the multi billion dollar oil industry start paying taxes instead of being exempt year after year decade after decade. And when your gasoline is 7 bucks a gallon or even hire, like most other countries - be satisfied - be very satisfied - that now you too are receiving no handouts. Then let me know how that's working for you. Otherwise we're all just a bunch of hypocrites.

I double and triple checked the rates. You can see them for yourself at:
Pacific Gas & Electric - Rates
I looked at the Average Total Rate for the various commercial/industrial rate schedules.

Even if the dealership were paying 50 cents a kWh, that would still be way less than a gallon of gas.

That is a great way to push new technology. On the other hand requesting a charge when your car is at the dealership is quite different.
The dealership is a private company and they are free to do as they please. I am not certain as to why you brought this up. I am not arguing the fact that a company can do this or not, I am clearly stating that it is unfair to other customers. You are going completely off topic, I will not discuss politics with you. Even if gas is $10 dollars per gallon I will still end up paying for it because it takes me from point A to point B. I do not want handouts, if a company offers a product that I need and I can afford it, I will simply purchase it.
You did not account for inflation. It would be close to $25,000 without the options listed below the MSRP. If we take into account the optional equipment tagged on, which adds up to $1751. This brings the total from $19,995 to $21746, when accounted for inflation would be around $27,000. Now as to what is expensive to one person and not to the other is open for debate. The price of a prius has actually gone down due to the advances in battery technology.
PG&E does offer very competitive rates compared to other companies. I am very happy that they are only in Northern California. They can probably offer those rates because they completely ignore the safety of the public. How many people did they kill in the San Bruno explosion?

How does this idea sound to you? Depending on what the dealership is paying per khw, they should offer that same amount in gasoline, even if it is less than a gallon.

Yesterday I had my 5k service. I asked if I could be charged up and they said yes but I would have to wait. I was willing to wait since I only needed 45 minutes to get a full charge. I waited an hour and half because the first hour I had to wait for another car to finish. Then the service person told me my car did not charge and we would have to trouble shoot it when I had time.

I went to a free charger 8 miles away and discovered the problem was that they activated the button on the car to delay the charging. Now I remember when I picked up my car after the leather install the same problem. I thought maybe they forgot. But they just don't know how to charge up the car. And they seem to think the car will charge itself while you drive it!

The next time I will specifically request that they allow me to make sure the car is charging!

Following up my own post; the 5k service took about 30 mins, so I was in & out of the service fairly quickly.

I did not ask for the charge. I did not ask to change the backup beep. Just wanted to get the service finished ASAP.
    They did wash the car.

This is one thing I'm not too concerned about. Does it really matter that you miss a charge every 5,000 miles? My dealer give a complementary wash and if they charge it too I'll thank them for that too.

A couple of Saturday's ago I was picking up some parts for my Frontier Truck at the Nissan Dealer and I asked to use the Stage II Charger for their Leaf Vehicles and they said no problem. I came out after getting my parts and it still need about 45 minutes of charging to be topped off and they said no problem. So I went shopping with my wife at a close by Filipino store she likes. We came back about a half hour later and the charge was complete so I walked in again and thanked the Nissan guy for the free charge. The owner also owns the Toyota dealership across the street where they don't have a charge station.

My local Ford dealer added a stage 2 charger getting ready for the C-Max Energi. I asked if one could bring another car in for a charge and he said "sure as long as it is not in use". When I get my PIP I may have to check it out.

I just picked up my PiP a few days ago from the dealer. I had hoped to drive home in Emode but they didn't have it plugged in- ever! Dealer said they get them off the truck and park them. Not sure how they sell the benefit but was also told these guys make next to nothing on the PiP so there is little incentive to even try to sell them over other options in the lot.

  11. Not only are they too lazy, incompetent, cheap, whatever, but this also proves they are not doing the pre-delivery inspections required for the 12 Volt batteries after the cars are delivered to the dealer! Here are two basic reasons never to trust a dealer.

Chris_SoCal: I'm going to second that sentiment, though for the Nissan dealer in Burien, WA. I charge there 1-2 times per week, and they are always friendly and nice.

The Toyota dealership where I bought my car is just down the street. Previously they were somewhat flummoxed when I asked about charging, so I haven't stopped back in. My 5K is coming up, so I will try again--but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

IMG_20120922_153156.jpg IMG_20120922_153143.jpg Agreed. Nissan seems to know more and care more about electrified products then Toyota.

When I was test driving the PIP I tried to drive one at the Toyota Dealership across the street from the aforementioned Nissan Dealership. The PIP they had was Zero Charge state and they had no clue where to even find the power connect cable. I didn't even waste another second there. I told them they should know their product line better than off the street potential customers and walked out. I ended up buying where I first test drove the PIP far from home but close to my place of work. They at least had some knowledge of the friggin product and its features.
