Yes. This is another post about cold weather.

Still going to post it though.

I have owned a PiP for a month. I do a daily run of 2.2 miles. 2.2 back. 2.2 there and 2.2 back.

Total miles 8.8 per day. (nursey and station run)

This is normally just about covered by the electric. Due to hills ev range isn't the best. But I understand that.

Now. Yesterday it was cold and the heater needed to be on. Fine. Again I get that and I get that the ICE kicked in.

What I don't get is that my normal run of 8.8 miles was NOT covered by the ev range. It turned to hv before the journey finished.
I also doubly don't get it because through some of the journey the ICE was running charging the battery. Surely I should have not had it hit hv before the end of the day.

    I find that very odd.

Driving conditions were normal. Drive pattern the same as normal. Nothing different except the heater and the slightly cooler weather.

    Thoughts?

How fast are you driving? How long are you stopped between segments? Those are pretty short trips. Your losing some EV to the heater fan and your route may not result in much ICE assistance being needed. Uphills easily covered by EV as you know and neither being needed going down. Your ICE is just idling to provide heat in your case. Does your model have heated seats? Are you needing to defog your windscreen? JJust some thoughts.

    Good morning!

    Less than 30MPH.
First 4.4 miles the stop time was hardly anything. Less than five minutes.
    Then a 7 hour wait
    Then another 4.4 miles.

Yes it has heated seats (but they weren't on)
Yes i did defog the window (but that is just fan from what i can work out)

I can see that the ICE does power assist the motor and battery - i can see that from the power drive thing in that the engine is rechargin the battery and driving the wheels.

As reported by others the fan causes the EV miles available as shown to drop by .8 mile almost instantly. You may get some of this back as it is just an initial estimate of use. Defog uses the electric A/C to blow dry air on the wind screen this might be where your missing EV went including that added by the ICE.

I do a similar run (5 miles) with a Ford passenger van for employees. Average a half gallon of gas each way.

defogging and fan don't use any battery for me. what are the outside temps, colder will reduce battery capacity, although, john1701 has reported 34 degrees in minnesota and no report of major capacity loss that i have seen. i notice a big drop from headlamp usage.

Ok. Thanks to those who replied. Found out where my miles went. It was on the fan. Whe I drive using just battery I have about a mile left of ev. This morning I checked and found that the heater / fan not only turns on the ice but also drops my ev range by 0.9 miles. Turn the thing off and I get back that distance instantly.

Staggering in my view. Must be the most efficient way, else they wouldn't have used that approach...

yes the fan instantly takes away EV range, however it will put it right back if turned off......this was discussed quite abit in other threads.
