Im no expert and Ive have learned that tires can make a big difference in MPG on a Prius. Recently I swapped rims and tires and changing from my previous All Season ultra High performance (UHP) Tires to a All Season Hankook V2 I gained 3 -4 mpg with the exact same driving route and style. The car is also quieter now.

When I was looking for suggestions I was given the following from Forum Member F8L, and I would have followed his suggestions but was given a 100% return guarantee on the hankooks I purchased and they were lesss $ so i tried them out. Other wise I think i would have got the Continental Pro Contact as they are a good price from Discount Tire

Highly recommend the Bridgestone Ecopia's. I cannot, every, recommend the potenzas. I had them, they were terrible, and ate 2-3MPG. Then after about 35K they cupped so bad they had to be replaced. The Ecopias gained me back those 2-3MPG, PLUS another 2-3MPG from my stock Turanza's. One problem with the potenza's is they're unidirectional (you can't do side to side rotations).

Anyway, Ecopia EP422's is what I have now, and I love them. LOVE them. If you're anywhere but a dry climate year round, don't let them sell you the 100's. They're not all season.

Make sure you come back and post a review. I think you will be the first with that tire on a Prius.

My UK Prius came Bridgestone Turansa E300's they were the worst tyres I have ever had on a car. They were noisy and steadily got more noisy till I discarded them with 5mm of tread still left.

I replaced them with wider 205/55/16 Hankook Kinergy Eco tyres. These tyres were so quiet I could not believe the difference, handling was greatly improved and I gained 3mpg.

The Potenza G019 Grids seem to have a lot of noise complaints on TR.

Indeed. I think you will be the first. They are a heavy tire and not as fuel efficient as the PureContact with EcoPlus or the EP422 but they ranked very well in a recent TireRack.com test. I look forward to reading your opinion after they have broken in. :)

What was interesting in the test was that despite being heavier than the PureContact its FE was nearly the same or slightly better.

Aye. At 50-55mpg the difference would be about 1mpg or so.
