It would have been great if you posted that.

“The filter is a new part. It did not come with the car.”

It would have clarified a lot.

Looking into the filter it does look like there is a foam filter inside the one I have. You can see it in the pic I posted.

    Hi PriusInParadise,
The vent on my 2011 Gen3 looks the same as your pic. Do you have the Toyota part number for this filter? Thanks!

That might be me: the links were all orphaned when the site was revised. They were linked to this site's gallery. Frustrating, wonder if the moderators could fix it, but kinda doubt it.

What I did was remove the inlet grill on my (3rd gen) and just friction fit a piece of vacuum motor filter in behind it. It's not a perfect fit, but I would think it catches the bulk of anything flowing through. I check it a few months back and it's collected a bit of dust and few small bits, things like seed husks, etcetera.

Also, one time I pried off the hatch floor and got down to the battery and the fan. Some of the fasteners were really tenacious, I think by design, to discourage DIY. On reassemble I left most of those fasteners off, there was still more than enough to hold it securely.

Thanks for clarifying that it was a Gen III. Can you repost the pics? I would like to see what it looks like taken apart before I do anything.

Is there already a filter behind the plastic grill? If you look at this pic it looks like there is black foam behind the plastic grill. Did you remove that and replace it with a different filter?

I may be mistaken, but post#12 by PIP had the Toyota Part No. G92DH-47010. Not many people carry it online (only two hits on my search engine). Best bet might be to call your local dealer to offset shipping cost.

    Finally found the photos.
    Front of the filter:
    P1000372.JPG

Back of the filter, showing the claws that fit between the HV battery vent grill:
    P1000375.JPG

Its only a fine mesh plastic screen, no foam or fiber element.
In Hawaii, it lists for about $40, kinda spendy for something so simple. P1000371.JPG

    Nice. Thanks!
I have emailed three local Toyota dealers for parts pricing on this "filter". Will report back when I get some quotes for comparison.

If anyone opens up the back, please take a picture and post. I'll try but I won't be doing it until around December.

Sure, I'll try to edit the original thread entry, where the links are broken. Check back in a day or two.

Atleast with mine there was no filter in that circuit, either at the back seat grill, or further along. It was a black plastic conduit, that might be what you're seeing. There's a single bolt in between the seat cushion and back, holding the grill in place. Maybe 10mm (socket)?

Nice! Thank you very much. I have only received one response thus far from the dealers that I have contacted via email...$42.10 from Longo Toyota that is about 30min north of Carson Toyota.

Exactly. I checked online last night and found one for $26.75 but with a $12 shipping cost. I called my dealer today and they could order it for $38.00. Trouble was that their warehouse did not have one in stock and it would take up to 2 weeks to get one in !

This must be a really new part for Toyota. I will order the one online tonight.

After reading this thread, I inspected the HV cooling fan and found it to be clean as new after 52,000 miles and three years of driving. I don't carry any fur shedding animals in the car and the back seat is usually unoccupied. If your circumstances are similar, you probably don't need to worry about the HV cooling fan.

Below is a picture of my HV cooling fan.
    HV Coolin Fan 001.jpg

It took me about one hour to remove the back seat bottom, RH seat back, HV battery covers, duct, etc. Disassembly is not visibly obvious and I was very cautious not to break anything. It took me about thirty minutes to put everything back together. Now that I am familiar with the parts, disassembly and reassembly should take about one hour; however, I don't plan to do this again, nor am I planning to install a filter. A filter may be a good idea for pet owners; however, the filter itself will slightly restrict air flow and will need to be inspected and cleaned regularly.

Below is a picture of the vehicle from the rear with the back seat, etc. removed.

Thanks. I was contemplating doing the very same thing after reading these threads. My car matches yours in years and miles. I do not carry any fur shedding animals so will not plan to do mine for some time now.

Thanks again for doing this and sharing.

The climate control is great so I don't have to open my windows either, so I think I will be good for now, at least until we give in and let my dogs in this car.

Personally, I would have removed the service plug before playing around back there. Nice pictures, btw - thanks.
