My Plug-in Prius just hit 10,000 miles, so I thought I'd share the stats. I commute about 85 freeway miles per day, at 65-70 MPH. I charge the car once per day (at home). No charging at work. On weekends, I can often charge twice per day, driving fewer miles, so my mileage is often higher.

Most of this data came from the Prius display. Because it closely matches the mileage results I've logged with Fuelly.com, I believe the data are accurate.

    As of 8 October 2012:
Date of purchase: 15 April 2012
    Energy Consumption:
    Miles Driven: 10,175 miles
Gallons of Gas Consumed: 155 gallons
kWh of Electricity Consumed: 413 kWh
    Overall Miles per Gallon: 65.65
    Electric Miles Driven: 1,595
    MPGe: 131.4 (1,595 miles / (413 kWh/34.02 gas equivalence))
    Gas Miles Driven: 8,579
MPG (gas only): 55.35 (8,579/155 gallons)

133 = Recharges (based on capacity replenished)

assumption: one full recharge, including charging losses = 3.1 kWh

    Maintenance:
    Total Maintenance cost: $20
Replace cabin air filter (myself): $20
    Oil Changes: 1, no charge
    Tire Rotations: 2, no charge

The most obvious point I can make about this car is that your MPG will vary dramatically depending upon how far you drive each day and how often you recharge. If your round trip to work is 25 miles, your overall MPG will definitely be much higher. I hope I can soon charge at work, and then we will have great results to compare.

It's worth noting the gas-only mileage here of 55 mpg at highway speeds. People who keep claiming that the PiP drives just like the liftback in HV mode need to check their math.

    Thanks for sharing,
Everyday you charge, what is the average EV miles you get ?.

    Here's the stats for mine:

    10,002 = Total Miles
    197 = Days (6.5 months)
    85.0 = Lifetime MPG

117.637 = Total Gallons (measured at the pump)
973.1 = Total kWh (including charging losses)

3,824 = EV Miles (displayed amount)
6,171 = HV Miles (displayed amount)
851.0 = Total kWh (displayed amount)

313.9 = Recharges (based on capacity replenished)

assumption: one full recharge, including charging losses = 3.1 kWh

I honestly cannot say. It varies a lot, because I live on an island with a 25 MPH speed limit, but on work days I drive two miles and get on the freeway. Once on the freeway, I sometimes turn EV off, and sometimes keep it off. If traffic is slow, I turn it on. I once drove around town and drive 19 miles in all-EV, but I drove slowly and coasted a lot, which isn't very realistic.

Anyway, the dashboard indicator usually shows that a full charge has only 10.4 miles, so maybe it doesn't like the fact that I drive in EV mode on the freeway.

Thanks for posting. There is nothing better than real world data from someone who obviously keeps meticulous records. Keep up the good work!

Does the Trip meter or EV Driving Display go past 10,000 miles or does it reset to 0? Or are your (Rebound or John) numbers a sum of various records you've kept since you got the car?

My approach is to reset at each gas refill, documenting detail here...

I've got 15,000 miles on my PiP so far.
    Avg 75 MPG.
    Since I started using a 240V EVSE, I'm averaging 85 MPG.

    I drive a 96 mile Interstate r/t several times a week at 67 MPG.
Otherwise my local driving is 90% EV.
240V charging keeps me on local EV much more easily.
    Best tank 94 MPG.

It is great to see consumption of both electricity and gasoline along with the miles broken down.

Prius PHV makes the best out of both fuel, responsibly while keeping the same interior functional and practical.

It goes past 10,000 miles. I know you have a PiP, but to make sure I'm clear: One of the display screens you can bring up with the steering wheel controls is called "EV DRIVING RATIO," and that's where most of my data came from. It can be reset, but there are values 1 and 2, so even if John reset his, he can tap the Trip button and the "2" values will appear, displaying his car's lifetime values. If you hold down the Trip button, the values reset.

Here's a picture of the display I'm talking about:

Oh, I'm sure he's a convert, all right. But a true conservationist knows that it is most efficient to keep the vehicle for 12 or 15 years.

When I went to the Plug-in vehicle event in town, the die-hard guys all had pretty old cars. One guy had a 1992 conversion, another guy had a 2004 Prius with an Enginer kit... lots of stuff like that.

Really? I would have thought trading a vehicle to someone that can derive more value from it than you can, and then applying the increased value they gave you toward another vehicle that is value optimized for yourself would be the most conservative/effiecient approach.

With gas prices spiking I would speculate that the demand for an 06 Prius is higher than usual, and the current temporary glut of PiPs present a value proposition to "in the know" adopters.

The current PHV promotions/discounts are looking really good but I am still in love with my 06. I have never owned a car for this long. Hope gen2 PHV is available when I need a replacement.

You do know that your 06 has been cheating on you? It plugged a leaf in the parking lot and that's how the PiP came about. :)
