Awful...I have to put gas in it every 4 to 5 weeks!! Perfect...not a hint of a problem. '10, with 39,000 miles.
Shame we couldn't have two threads on this; one for the gen2 and one for the gen3 Prius. My gut feeling is the gen2 was more reliable. I voted that I had major issues. I like the car, I like it's smooth ride and I love the fuel economy and the dealer. I don't like the expense of items when they fail; I'm on my THIRD steering motor and they're not cheap (all replaced under warranty so far - which has now expired) and a HV battery ECU failed too. Then I had a few niggles with rattles and creaks where certain parts were again replaced under warranty. Personally I would have expected better of a Toyota but it hasn't ever broken down as such (when the ecu failed the car still drove), just annoying niggles. Would I buy another Prius? Hmmm, you know what, I don't think I will. I might go EV and the upcoming Ford Mondeo (US Fusion) hybrid looks good. If Toyota UK reduce the price of the PIPrius I might give it a look, but no way atm = it costs $50,000 here! ha ha
Just shy of 68,000 miles. I ran the car as a taxi for two years upto 64,000 miles and for the last 12 months it's been retired. All the problems were when the car was worked. My understanding is that the steering motor was improved for the 2012 model year on all models so obviously there was an issue there somewhere. But I've experience of cars used as taxi's here in the UK and I hate to admit it, but the gen3 Prius seems the weakest car out there for the job! I bought the gen3 when they'd only been released here in the UK in late 2009 and the reviews of the gen2 indicated that it was tough and I assumed the gen3 would be the same. Many working cars here are diesels but lately have suffered from diesel particle filter issues when used in the city which is why I tried the petrol hybrid. Due to the economic collapse over here I've left the taxi trade and now use the vehicle to commute to an office job - a role it seems to enjoy.
856 miles less than a month old and in the shop with a Yellow ! triangle and a Hybrid System Problem message. :-( The dealer has to wait until Monday to talk to Toyota because they aren't sure why!
At about 85,000 miles the only issue has been the CD player does not work, which we hardly ever used anyway. Oil change every 10,000 miles, I put 4 quarts in and 10,000 miles later 4 quarts comes out. A very tight engine.....
I do not use Entune anymore. I use the Pandora App on my phone, and play it through BT Audio. It does not have to buffer once or twice per sound like with Entune. I wonder if Toyota routes the data through their server and slows it down some in the process.
2010 Prius III, not three - 56,000 miles and not a single problem. Even better, I'm consistently getting 55 -60 mpg!
