The low beam LED headlights on my PIP seem to be set too low when driving up or down hills, or when driving mountain roads. The light pattern is very defined, and the top of it can be seen on the pavement ahead, maybe 80 feet out. When approaching a hill, the distance is much less, making it hard to see the roadway.

Maybe I need to have the headlights adjusted. Has anyone else had this problem?

Oh yes, many have. There is a particular thread here which describes how to raise the beam. I'm on my iPad and don't have it bookmarked on here, but on my pc I do since so many people asked for it I just use it as quick reference. If you can't find it let me know, I'll post it later. (though I am certain you or someone else will reference it by that time)

Actually I have noticed this exact thing on the Leaf. It's a very nice flooding of what I want, but seems its range is really short unless I turn on high-beams.

After our recent upstate NY trip where we did a lot of night driving through hills and curves I found two things:

    1) The "Auto-dimming" rear view mirror hardly ever works properly- very disappointing in a $30K car.

    2) The LED headlights were aimed too low for someone who drives a lot at night and require adjustment.

Looks like this is the post about aiming the LED headlights: Shaded lights are getting me down | PriusChat

I adjusted the headlights and it seems better. But I have not tried it in the mountains.

Each headlight has an up/down adjust located on the back of the light assembly, between the two electrical connectors. I used an 8mm end wrench to make the adjust. I put the car in the driveway (level) with the lights shining on the garage door. I noted where the lights were befor I started as a point of reference and turned each adjuster CCW to raise the beams. I noticed ther eis backlash in the adjusters, so the initial turn of the adjusters did not raise the lights.

I think I now have the top of the beam horizontal. That should keep the lights out of oncoming traffic, but may not be enough for mountain roads. At least it is an improvement over the factory adjustment.

Did you have to lower any panels to get to the 8mm screws? I may try this.

No, they are exposed and visible. The driveer's side is the easiest to access. The passenger side is a little harder because there is a cable in the way.

The adjuster "bolt" is a white nylon disk over a notched metal disk. The 8mm "bolt" is a moulded feature of the white nylon disk. I'll put on a picture later this morning.

The red arrow in the attached PDF shows the 8mm up/down headlight adjustment.

or . . . just turn the little wheel on the lower left . . . it'll adjust the beams, which is pretty slick

The easiest and quickest way is to put a Phillips screwdriver where those teeth are and turn...

the comment was directed to skoorbmax's beam adjustment ... he has a different car / different headlights / that you can simply adjust by turning a little wheel on the dash. Comes in handy if you have heavy people in the back seats - or a lot of junk in the trunk temporarily. ( Off topic. .... I know)

I finnaly got to the mountains in the dark. Headlights have been adjusted higher for two weeks without any issues with oncoming drivers. Visibility is greatly improved in the mountains.

The little wheel on the dash would be nice!

The LED headlights are automatically adjusted, there is no manual adjust dial.
