Looks like I may have written off my 2010 on Monday. Should find out tomorrow. Estimate is over 10k so far with possible damage to the inverter. If is is damaged then it will be a goner. I now know what airbags feel like, but I did walk away after I forced open the driver door. This is really annoying as I had just made the second car payment on it. Guess I have to count my blessings at this point.
So sorry to hear about the accident, but very glad to read "walk away" -- regardless of the condition of the car. I'm hoping no one else was seriously injured and that you are able to make quick arrangements for a replacement.
Glad you got that out of the way with... May you have many safe miles without incident now that you got past this!
Cars can be replaced, but people can't. Glad you are OK. At least the insurance company should come pretty close to your purchase price since it was a used car when you bought it. On a new car, you would have really taken a hit unless you had gap insurance. Good luck.
Looks like they are going to fix it. Estimate is about $9000, and about 3-4 weeks. Hope it is as safe as it was before. Yes I am glad I walked away. Yes the car is metal and plastic. Lost my brother to a accident when he was 16 so yes counting my blessings.
Estimate now is 13780.00 and they are fixing it. Insurance said it had to be 80% of value to write is off. So $2220.00 short. I hope they fix it well.
Wow. These things hold their value well. I used to think airbag deployment is the kiss of death for a car. What's damaged under the hood?
If there were ANY damage to the frame or any of the energy absorbing parts IT WILL NOT be as safe as new. There was a long long thread on this. But your "damage" is not just what it cost to fix it but the lost value of the car. Make sure you get compensated for that from the insurance company. In short your car even if fixed well, worth less ... if you ever want to sell.
I just read a story about counterfeit airbags from China. Prius is one of the models these counterfeit is available. They either fail to deploy, or deploy incompletely in DOT tests.
