I'd love to have people respond with what sort of deals they got on their plugins. Right now, Toyota is offering 0% APR and $2000 cash back on plugin purchases. Has anyone gotten a car for under $30k? How did you do it?

No one? I'm getting an offer of just south of 29k for a base PiP from an Oregon dealer…too good to be true?

NY has 5 year 0% financing and $2,000 back. The lease deals is $3,100 in lease cash. If you are a teacher in new york you also get $1,500 additional lease cash and you get first payment paid for and $250 to spend in your classroom. Best is buyout after 36 month is only 17K

I've been negotiating hard for a Prius Plug-in in New England. I have the money in the bank and find it COMPLETELY INSANE that I will have to pay $2000 MORE for the car if I pay cash rather than finance through Toyota. Even at 0.0%, I find this to be morally repugnant. Clearly, Toyota is more interested in their banking business than in their car-selling business.... This says a lot about how the U.S. got into its current economic mess. If someone finds a dealer interested in $29K cash in hand for a new PIP, I'd like to hear about it!

I don't understand....just finance it then get the payoff amount (since it's 0.0%) and pay it off

You could make the payments (at 0.0% interest) over time the money you still have left over could be making interest in some kind of investment plan, you're way ahead as I see it

That's exactly what I did. The dealer took $2000 off up front when I signed up for the TFS. If I wait a whole month to pay it off, it will come out to about $50. I haven't had much time to drive it. Did get some passerby comments fueling up at 240V at the McDonalds since it trips my 15A 120V breakers in my garage. No charge for the McDonalds charge, so I will be going back regularly for my sausage McMuffin off the dollar meuu.

I have read in the 'TFS' loan document that, if you pre-pay early, Finance charges may apply.
Not sure what and how much is this.

It's just plain wrong that cash isn't as good as taking out a loan. I just won't do it.

I laughed when I read this.
The contract is boilerplate and must be used for every buyer. On a TFS with ZERO apr, they are probably praying you pay the car off early.

May apply, but what are the finance charges? If it's $0, then who cares?
Also, my document says "if I pay off early, I will not have to pay a penalty"

with september incentives my price was 31k - 2000 incentive, so $29000. dealer fee was $75.
Best offer I had was $28820 (odd #) but was bit far away.
We might see someone breaking 27000's barrier with the new $3500 incentive

What's this 3500 incentive you speak of?

EDIT: Oh wow, NY Metro now has a $3500 rebate from TFS. What confuses me a bit, though, is why doesn't Toyota just severely limit/stop production of new cars? Clearly the car isn't selling as well as they were expecting, why bother taking such huge losses on it?

Or, rather, was it just insanely overpriced at the outset?

Also, the regional nature of these deals always kind of baffles me. Last month, we had $2k in NW/NY and $500 in CA. Now, we have the same $2k in NW but $3500 in NY and $1500 in CA.
