There has been alot of discussion about trailer hitches, bike haulers and the pros and cons. Here is my personal preference. My hitch is a CURT, it went on in about 15 minutes. The CURT weighs about 28lbs and has a tongue capacity of 150lbs. The rack is a Swagman XC-2, it weighs about 32lbs. The Cruisers weigh 30lbs each. I have 92lbs hanging off of the rear mounted hitch. There is virtually no movement of the bikes when travelling down the road. The C does not feel tail heavy in the least, and fuel economy has not changed. It may not be for everyone, but I am completely satisfied.
Thanks. It kicks up. The level the cradles sit is about 4 inches higher (off the ground), that the level that the hitch exits the back of the car, if that makes sense. Next time the bikes are on the car, I'll try to remember to take a picture with a tape measure. We've used it several times since my original post, and I'm still very satisfied. I went with the XC because of the extra width tire cradles. I sometimes haul cruisers with 3 inch wide tires.
I agree with regards to the hitch. I went down route 66 with a luggage rack over the weight limit with no problem.
