I was thinking about buying shark fin antena but after seeing a few on other prius they didn't look good on this car, maybe this is just me so hope you guys don't mind of me saying this. Anyway here is my modification:

1st Mod: Cut off antena right at a twisty line and keep about 1.5'', there's a tiny wire inside of antena and you need to cut it off as well, buy airsoft gun from 99 cent store for $0.99 take out the black cap from a foam ballet put it on top of your antena as shown in the pic, mine fits perfect without using any glue.
2nd Mod: Buy (Surface Gard) Vinyl bumbpers from Home Depot $2.97 it has adhesive tape, spray with white then stick them on your bumper then that's it :)
BTW Spray bought earlier for my home furniture.

Antena is working great without breaking up. Hope you all enjoying seeing this cheap mod :)

Sorry, but your car needs some Viagra now. ;)

Can't say that looks better than a shark fin antenna.

I don't get the other mod either.

They aren't my cup of tea either, but it's not my car and they are both nicely done. Thanks for posting them

I would like to have a stubby antenna as well. In fact, there are many on eBay for less than $10, but having an electronics degree and amatuer radio license, I can't possibly imagine that your reception can be as strong as leaving the antenna fully in tact. You may notice reception problems once you get out of the city some distance. That being said, it does look nice.

I haven't get out of the city yet but I know for sure that I will lose reception. Like I said I saw some of sharkfin antenas on prius but they look not as great as the one on BWM or Benz or I haven't seen a good one on prius? so this is why I homemade it :)

Did you see the $5 antenna you can get at the dodge dealership? I paid $4 plus tax. Got out of there for $4.37 but the price might be slightly higher now.

That might be a good antenna for Gen II owners, but the stock antenna on the Gen III is even shorter than that one.

I wondered if some of the Gen III came with a longer antenna, I couldn't imagine wanting to cut the short one I've seen any shorter.

I just removed the antenna. If I had a way to remove the base and not leave a hole, I would have done that.

    I applaud the OP's creativity.
    And to each their own.
But IMO a Shark fin looks much, much better. IMO unmodified looks much better. Viagara needed? Indeed. That just looks "wrong".
