I have a 2010 prius 2; This morning after starting the car and releasing the brakes I heard loud clunking sound (seemed like a belt ?) Turned the car off. tried it again exact same thing, turned if off .. opened the hood to see if I can tell where this was coming from.. started the car and the clunking came for <1 sec and went away, car drove fine brakes worked fine.. Anyone else had this happen to them? I read something regarding temp changes we have had some change but not a drastic change, and the car was driven over the weekend. Thanks, Jay
First thing that comes to mind is rust on the rotors holding the pads. Did you wash the car this weekend? Was it really humid?
didnt wash the car this weekend, and it sat in the garage for the first time after a while... I think its very much like this. Rough loud start (what the dealer said) | PriusChat
I heard a loud clunking (rattling) sound when the Prius was started for the first time in five months. There was something in a thread about the intake manifold. However, after hearing the noise only twice (first two start ups) it hadn't occurred again and therefore I haven't been concerned about it. Has it made the same noise again?
The clunking sound is an engine issue, not a brake issue. Report it to your dealer. There is a TSB on it. It -is- possible the brakes can rust to the pads, but it's not common in the Prius. With Prius brakes you get a rubbing sandpaper noise when the rotors rust from getting wet and sitting overnight. It goes away when you move about 20 ft or so.
