I did leave mine overnight and they did do the engine mount replacement at that time. I thought this fix help a lot with the noise and rough starts I had when it was cold this winter.
But after I got in tough with the CSR (suggested by Toyota Customer Service, btw) and presented him with the Ytubes and this thread, he was on it and got an IM replacement appointment schedule the same day.

I'm glad I came back onto this forum after so long. I too had this engine knock happen to me 3 times. Happily, the first time it happened, it was in the dealer's parking lot around April of last year. I had the service rep log in my record having heard the knock and rattle/banging in case a TSB came about.

Fast forward to today - given they noted it on my record I'm now dropping off my car to have this done tomorrow. 29k+ miles, its happened 3 times.

I have no clue what a intake manifold is, but I'll feel a lot better starting the car up going forward.

Will this still be covered even if the car is out of warranty? I have a 2010 with 38k and has done this knock numerous times.

The TSB states "This repair is covered under the Toyota Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60
months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s in-service date." so I believe you are covered.

    Good luck!

The technician is suppose to apply a sticker in the engine compartment that indicates the fix has been applied (according to the TSB). Mine did not have it after the work was done.
The other way to tell is to create an account @ toyotaowners.com and enter the VIN of the car. That should reveal all the service history for your prius, at least the service that was done at the dealer(s).

I think mine is having this problem. I've noticed it the last couple of winters but wasn't sure what it was. I happened to see this post on Friday and, I kid you not, it did it on Monday morning and I was able to catch it on video (I've attached the link below). It was our first cooler morning that we've had in a while, but it was only maybe 60 outside. I've never had it throw any lights on the dash - it's just a rough start (moves the entire car when the engine starts) and you start hearing the knocking in the engine. I'm going in this Saturday to have it checked out and have the TSB printed out and have the video on my phone - so I guess I'll see if they decide that this is what's happening. =0(

Sorry about the music. It was actually on low volume, but my phone picked it up more than I thought it would.

Yup, welcome to the club. Hopefully they will get that taken care of for you. There is an engine mount issue TSB that you should print up also.

Hi all i googled and found this issue.
I realize this is for the later model prius.
I have a genII late 2008 model and have noticed this same issue with my vehicle. It used to knock for a very short amount of time but now can last up to a min till it sorts its self out. Its gotten louder the last couple of days and the check engine light is now on.
We took it into the dealership to get the engine light checked and their equipment diagnosed a blocked injector no.1
They didnt supply the code but advised to remove and clean all the injectors.
They will be charging me 300 dollars to get this done.
Any replacement injectors are 400 dollars each :(
I am happy if it fixes the problem but i suspect it may not.
I have re booked the vehicle into the dealership to get the injectors sorted but affraid of what they will come up with.
Is there a tsb bulletin in relation to this same issue for an earlier model vehicle? If so can someone point me in the right direction or to a link so i can provide it to the dealership.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards

Check around, $400 each for a gas injector is nuts. I can buy diesel ones for less than that.

I had my air intake manifold changed from this TSB in May and I just had the problem again. My main concern is that this problem could cause more damage than just the air intake. Is there anyway that the valves or cam shaft or engine block or anything else could be damaged from the unexpected amount of pressure in the engine?

Has anyone had problems after this fix has been completed that they believe are related? Thanks

Hi all just thought i would post an update in reference to my knocking issue as i mentioned a few posts up.
I had it booked into the dealership they established one of the injectors was partially blocked.
They removed the injectors and had them cleaned and re installed once again.
The above was done a couple of weeks ago but i didnt get a chance to look at it since the work was done as the wife drives it 95% of the time and i have been working stupid hours.
I checked it yesterday morning and the engine no longer knocks.
One thing i have noticed prior to the clean as mileage per tank got worse sitting on apx 5.5-6.0 litres per 100 acording to the consumption meter.
After the clean its its sitting now between 4.3-4.6 litres per 100 kms according to the consumption meter which is a good improvement. (This is the wife driving it normally no special driving techniques either).
Engine light hasn't come on since either and the vehicle feels more responsive.
Technician advised to use a higher grade fuel eg 95-98 octane (Aussie spec) may be different in other regions througout the world.
The above may help some others with this issue so its something to consider getting done.
As mentioned on my previous post mine is a GenII vehicle but this thread relates to the 2010 model.
    Regards

My wife's car had this sound, exactly, she says. We're having the intake manifold replaced today, under warranty via the TSB posted here.

Condensed water in the EGR valve apparently creates the rough start. We, and many here, find it coincides with both cold/wet weather and subsequent cold-start AND having previously shut down the system before the warm-up cycle was complete (as in backing the car out of the garage under electric power to wash it, then hitting the power button before the normal warm-up procedure was complete.)

Hopefully this fixes it for us. We will now let the system warm-up cycle run through completion every time. Also, we will try the "press the accelerator to the floor" fix that someone else says shortens (or eliminates) the knock at cold-start.

Agreed. For me, the humidity didn't seem to matter. It was when I would move the car and forget to press the EV button (or it would say "Not Available") and the engine would start. I'd shut it off less than a minute later, come back hours later to go out somewhere, and knock knock!

Is there a way to check if you fall under the TSB?? I went to Toyotas' website for owners - punched in my VIN and went to the TSB/recall area -- and it said nothing was available for my car. Having got my V2 back in July - maybe mine is after the TSB was released -- thereby got the "revised" manifold during production???

mudmanrv IIRC, the Toyota tech the visits here told us that the 2011 mid-year refresh started getting the new manifolds and so only MY 2010 and part of MY 2011 were eligible of the TSB (VIN range numbers included in the TSB).

With that said, it seems like there have been quite a few late MY 2011 and 2012s having the same problem. Seems to me Toyota didn't get it right.
