Hello, has anyone heard when the new GPS Map update for 2012 will be released? It is usually around Septemeber/October but I haven't seen or heard anythin about it yet. I assume it will be 12.1 but who knows.

    Thanks!

I haven't heard anything about it either. My maps are from 2008 so I'm due for an upgrade soon.

The word from my dealer in North Charleston, SC is that it will be available December 2012.

I spoke to the dealer in Renton, WA--he said the new map DVD is available now (it just became available a few days ago). I ordered it and will report back when I pick it up this Friday or Saturday.

There will be a number of part numbers as each works with only one version of hardware.

The version will be 12.1 for the year and as Jimbo says the MY of your car will determine the Gen # of your DVD device. Your 2011 should be the Gen 6. Your dealer should know this based on your model year.

You can usually get the current one on ebay for $160 including tax and shipping.

New Garmin with traffic and lifetime map updates, $139.95 vs $1,000 and $169 a year for a GPS toy from Toyota.

Built-in Nav versus external cords to attract thieves. It is good we have choices.

Bluetooth. No cords. It would take 22 thefts and even then the Toyota is behind on quality.

Email for Toyota today saying v12.1 is now available, MSRP $169. I'm running the original discs in my 2009 so I'm due for an update.

I bought a used 2009 (from a GM dealer no less) a month ago but the NAV DVD was scratched and unusable so they ordered a new one. The 'version' is U93D and the car will NOT read it, fails immediately with an error. Does anyone know what version they SHOULD have gotten from Toyota? Is this one for 2010s? The map date info is 2009 and 2010.

Just ensure that the disc is meant for a Gen 5 navigation system (2006-2009). They may have gotten a Gen 4 or 6 disc by mistake. Toyota still makes update discs for older generations but I'm not sure how far back they go.

I did the update this afternoon. I haven't had it on the road yet for a full test but the upgrade was easy. By the way it kept my memory point and my previous selections. What surprised me is it did drop some of my options. The region of the country changed and I think it reverted to default settings on the mph settings on the ETA setup screen. I had adjusted those to get a very good estimate for me. Unfortunately I didn;t look at the screen and will have to work out settings again.
