Brakes Replacement

    I will be replacing front pads & rotors and rear shoes & drums. What do I need to do so as not to disturb the electrical part of the system? I faintly remember where I red something where I would have to remove a fuse. Please correct me if I'm wrong,

    Yes, there are 2 relays to pull and the rest is explained in this article;

    Brake service

    I followed the instructions and it was just like a non-hybrid.

    Last year I bought front and rear replacement parts and when I got to the rears they were as new, almost no wear, so I left them, look closely at the rear shoes before purchasing replacements:cool:jmho

    I need to change the brake pads and rotors - front - for my 2010 Prius with 76,000 miles. I am wondering if the process to remove the 2 relays is the same for the 2010 model. I wen to http://www.techinfotoyota.com and paid $15 for the 2 days standard access. My amazement is that they are saying, in the manual - it's saying to remove the (-) negative charge cable from the batter, the 12V battery. Problem with that is then you need to clear the DTC 1214 code? How do you that? Then there is the ISC learning???

    Question I have: which way is the most simples way to replace the Front- rotors and brakes and not have to worry about the hydraulic brake system and code errors that could pop up later on and then have to be cleared????

    If you don't mind my asking, why do you need to replace your pads & rotors at 76,000 miles? I'm at 133,000 miles with my 2005 pkg 4 & I'm still a long ways from needing any work on my original brake parts.

    Hi Ken,

    I guess the only logical explanation to why i have to change my brake pads and rotors (front) at 76,000 miles is because i drive to fast and i'm always in lots of traffic and braking to much, to much braking.

    After doing some research on here, I have to say it is kind of shocking that I have to change the pads on the front and the rotors, but i have no option. The pads are worn out and the rotor has line in it. The dealership near my house was going to re-cut the rotors and replace new pads for $259. I said No. No way that is to much and I'm not willing to pay for that.

    I bought new rotors and pads from Autozone for $113.00 I like this price better.

    I'm planing to change my rotors and pads today. I will just follow the directions and go from there.

    I bought my 210 Prius in September of 2009 and I have to say it is kind of bad when you look at the miles, over 76,000 in 3 years. That is bad.

    150,000 miles & all brake parts look like they've got less than 10% wear. Either there are a bunch of Parnelli Jones' out there or I'm driving like a wouse. :)
    There's something to be said for driving like you have no brakes .... you save wear, and get superior mpg's to boot. Only thigh is you occasionally have to use neutral for braking ... just to knock the rust accumulation off the rotors.
