I get only 9.4 out of mine and reduces to 8.6 as soon as I turn out of my road (its not a road of 0.8 length).

I put it down to hills. Hills seem to absolutely ruine the range (I have three hills on my 2.2 mile route) - I would be interesting to know how much "historic" data the system uses. My guess is that six months is not used. My guess is nearer 5 miles is used to calculate the estimated range.

I completely agree with the MPG and "estimated left in the tank" comment from the other poster on this message stream.

Think about this - crusing at 55mpg for 3/4 of a tank of fuel might give you a range of 120 miles left in the tank. Now assume you drive quickly (stop / start) for 10 miles (this increases your usage to 8mpg). The range should adjust to reflect this recent change in driving habbits. If it continued to show 110 miles (and use the old values) it would cause a significant issue (and no one would ever trust the range information).

It is much more likely it uses the last five miles (or 30 minues of driving) to calculate the range and doesn't rely on historic (days or weeks) information.

Would be good to get someone from Toyota to confirm... Thus putting a thread like this to bed and so a sticky can be posted.

Guys.....this has been hashed out over and over in other threads....for those people posting for the first time here, just search back a few pages.

There is NOTHING wrong with your cars....if you drive your car in EV, and keep the HSI indicator under 20%, you will always go approx 14-16 miles. No matter what your ESTIMATED RANGE is at the beginning.

If you watch your HSI, and you see it going to 30% upwards to 50% or higher, dont ever expect to get more then 11 or so miles distance.

And if you keep driving with HSI over 40%, your car learns yours habits, and calculates what it thinks you will do your next drive. the faster you drive, the more EV miles you use...the lower your ESTIMATE will be.

One day, google a route that is a 35mph road.....go out when noone is around, drive that route at 32mph or less....you will see that you will get 15miles if you keep HSI below 20%. If you do this 5 times, your EV ESTIMATED RANGE will start to go UP and UP and UP. But it will take several "hypermiling" EV trips.

to be clear, this has NOTHING to do with your BATTERY, or your CHARGER.

Hope this helps the people who have not read all the previous threads on this.

nothing is ever put to bed in these forums, most new users are not interested in seeking and studying old threads. it's more interesting to post your own. it's not answers they seek, but dialogue.

LOL....the odd thing is, i think the pertinent threads are just a page or two down....when i get into a new forum i typically read the first 10 pages of threads far before ever posting.....at least get up on whats fairly current before asking same questions.

If you try to accelerate with the HSI under 20%, you are going to have a lot of angry people around you. What is that, 0-30 in 30 seconds?

That is not practical. Hell, below 20% is barely enough to maintain speed let alone accelerate.

There is no way to guaranty what your EV range will be. How does it know how hard you break, or accelerate, or turn? These all play into its guess.

Every drive i take where im 90% of the time at 20% or less, i get over 15miles total on EV. I agree its slow and something that should only be done on 35MPH roads, where there is little traffic. I live in the country where i have a few routes i can do this, and have for testing.

soon as i hit 40% or more alot, the trip gets reduced to 12miles or less....and ofcourse if you really use the pedal alot more, the trip can be as low as 8 miles when ICE comes on.

Just trying to convey to people that EV predicted range means absolutely nothing in the end. Its all about your right foot.

Thanks for referring me to the older threads on this topic.
It now makes sense that the charge indicator is just an estimate based on my driving pattern
and I'll stop worrying about it !

13.3 after every charge. Normally about 15/16 miles every EV charge, too. I'm not heavy on the throttle but certainly not that slow either. I just got the car a couple of weeks ago and it has about just over 1/2 a tank of gas.

    That's great!

It would be nice if I drove fewer miles. About 9,500 the first 6 months. As a result, my average is 85 MPG... which still great, but that goes to show how much of a difference daily distances make. I've snuck in a few really long drives too.
