My 2012 Prius Four turned 15 days old today!

While my wife was driving home, she encountered a very strong storm here in the North East. A tree branch fell and hit to roof of the car. Luckily, no one was hurt.

Now...I wonder what a new sunroof and solar panel cost?! :)

Ouch, glad no one was hurt. Guessing about 2-2.5K to fix.

$100 for comprehensive. The insurance company wasn't too pleased the car was so new.

It's interesting to see the solar panel all smashed up. I c
Ah...but the water damage. It was pouring at the time. That hole in solar panel reaches right down to the fabric. The sliding sunroof shade/cover was completely drenched.

It's a good thing she wasn't driving a convertible :) Cars can be replaced. Lives can't. I am pretty certain it is going to exceed $2.5K in damage, but that is what insurance is for. Also, because of the type of accident, it should not make your insurance rate increase.

Sorry to hear that. Glad to hear your wife is OK. Cars can be fixed, even brand new ones.

I thought I'd provide an update. At this point (before any of the glass has been removed), the estimate is for around $3900 in repairs. That solar glass is around $1700.

What begs the question is, how much would the repair cost for a similar hit, on a non-solar roof model. Can they even replace the metal roof? How, cut it off at the pillars and weld on new one back on?
