have not seen any actual posts of any 2012 PiP owners detailing a dealer installed auto-dimming mirror w/ homelink (factory Toyota part).

The few threads that deal with homelink/EC mirror all refer too different models (e.g. Prius III) and not with the PiP base model.

I called the parts department of a dealer near me to ask about this, but the parts they provided me seemed to be quite on the expensive side when I look them up onine (and were just the mirror itself, and not the wiring, etc):

EC rear mirror w/o homelink: 87810-oW260
EC rear mirror w/ homelink: 87810-OW241

I was trying to negotiate getting this added in to my (possible) PiP base model purchase as a dealer installed option, but I haven't been able to come up with the right Toyota approved part(s) -- if there are made available separately for this. The reason I ask versus going with aftermarket -- http://www.mitocorp.com/homelink-auto-dimming-mirrors.html is I was hoping to get original parts so that they go along with the original MFR warranty for the car if it's installed by dealer.

I have seen also 00016-47100 used as a part number on eBay with instructions, similar to the PT374- 47100 -- http://priuschat.com/attachments/00016-47100inst-pdf.28868/

Can anyone confirm that the PT374- 47100 set along with the instructions here: http://toyotapart.com/PT374-47100.pdf would work with the 2012 PiP? Maybe I can just get the dealer to be able to give me a free installation if not the part itself. So far the guy I'm working with insists that the part is not available.. which might as well be true?

    Any insight is welcome.

I'm not sure about the part numbers you listed, but really, all you need is the Homelink mirror. It can be a variety of models/part numbers or from a variety of different vehicles. You dont HAVE to buy it from Toyota. Gentex is the company who makes these mirrors (if you Google it, you will see they make all kinds of rear view mirrors, some even with small LCD monitors for backup camera or whatever else you want to do with it).

My mirror came from a Hyundai Sonata. I used the Toyota instructions found here and elsewhere to install it myself. The base was the same, so after wiring it up, it just slid into the base (that's attached to the windshield) and that was it.

Thanks for chiming in Tracksyde. Are you saying that the EC wiring harness was already installed in the Base model? Or did you source it from elsewhere/build it yourself?

I'm leaning towards getting this one on eBay like others had mentioned, and seeing if the dealer will do a free install.

There is no harness that is part of the car, at least not in the base. If you review the Toyota EC mirror instructions (presumably for installation in cars that did not come with the mirror), you'll see that they tell you to (1) tap +12V from the side view mirror controller (lower left hand side by your left knee) and then (2) tap into the negative/ground wire that is part of the harness for the overhead map lights.

When you buy the mirror, it should come with something like a harness that plugs into the back of the mirror. Then you just run the other wires to the 2 locations and then you're done (you can use the t-tap connectors or you can splice and solder if you wish.. if you buy a new mirror, it may even come with the t-taps).

The hardest part is pulling off the A-pillar plastic cover (which isnt hard at all, its just you have to follow the instructions since there's a little tab you need to turn before the A-pillar plastic can be removed).

There have been other owners who bought the mirror (from like Amazon or whatever) and then taken it to a car stereo shop for installation. But if you're comfortable with using the t-tap connectors and removing the A-pillar plastic cover, then you'll find it is a very simple installation.

Thanks again for the details :) Even though I am an electrical engineer, I try not to play with new toys that have such a high MSRP, haha, but if I do decide to do it, those tips will help, I'm sure.
