I've read the forum and there is no OEM AV/RCA plug-in within the 2004-2005 MFD. There is, however, a 3rd party mod from Coastaltech which seems to resolve this.

*What would help any 2004-2005 Prius owners would be a walk-through guide to self mod your own cam lockpick instead of pay +$150 for this (People sell to profit though).

I already installed a OEM style backup camera and currently using a 4.1 LCD installed above my rear view. - This as a second input which I can connect to my "HDMI to RCA" converter which then leads to my micro HDMI to HMID input from my android phone. I can see my Google Maps Navigation from there which is cool but I haven't read enough yet to see how I can tap into my OEM radios audio inputs. (Probably really easy I'm sure).

My only problem now is that I've seen too many youtube videos of the 2004-2005 MFD mod to show video that I'm going to bite and buy this thing. My aftermarket LCD works but I really want a BIGGER screen ;)

Pre-'06 MFD's appear to have a lessor resolution.
'06-'09 appear to have a higher resolution.
The software running on the different MFD's also appear to differentiate as there are noticeable graphics changes yet I have yet to read enough to see any users confirm that you can simply install OEM and then plug into the +'06-'09 MFD for instant rearview camera usage.

I'd recommend to search the forums but I only concluded that on my pre '06 model that you have to use a 3rd party to add video to the MFD.

However, I presume that if you have Navigation then you should be able to add a backup camera onto yours and somehow tap into the MFD. Please post if you find any results.

I really would like to see a moderator post a sticky about this subject and all the relative posts/results that surround this; We're not the first ones to discuss this of course so a sticky would be very useful.

    Am I missing something here?

You ask how to wire up a rearview camera and get thrilled by a thread where the prerequisite is that you already HAVE a rearview camera?

I must've posted the wrong thread as it was pretty early that morning.

Nevertheless, it would be more helpful to find a useful link, post it, and provide some direction to a new forum member and especially since you seem to have more experience at post "199" and with some postings I notice from you profile.

However, if you mean to ridicule his behavior for wanting to learn then by all means you have succeeded...Thanks for the warm welcome....

This post might be more helpful.

I've managed to install a aftermarket OEM-like backup camera on my 2004 Prius; Attached is a picture of how it looks on my ride. Looks pretty stock so I'm very happy with the results.

I did not follow any guides for the install itself but the previous link seems to have a PDF that captured the take apart guide for the interior, back panel, and wire routing which is similar to my own method. The only difference of my process was that I used the left side rubber boot instead of the right show in that walk through.

Also, I am waiting on a Coastaletech mod to integrate a backup cam to my '04 MFD so I can stop using my $25 LCD from eBay. It does the job but the real estate sucks and I really prefer the stock look over this cheesy aftermarket job I did.

I'm sure that you will find how to install a camera on your own (very easy). As far as connecting it to your year MFD then I suggest you read up on all the available resources you can find. Maybe someone from the forums can help us both in the right direction...

I have indeed spend countless hours researching this and other issues. My question was genuine: am I missing something? If not, then I summed up the linked thread in ONE LINE which took me hours to work out for myself.
So in my view, I am saving other people the hassle of finding this out at the expense of a lot of wasted time.
The thread you linked to is extremely useful, but not if you are looking to wire up a camera yourself. Then my one line will tell you everything you need to know about said thread.

If I had found a solution, I would certainly have posted it ;)

PS: thanks for the link in post 8: I did NOT come across that one yet in my searches!!! Not sure if me not having navigation makes a difference (might be a different screen), but we'll find out.

I've certainly taken your words our of context and for that I thank you for kindly clarifying.

The backup camera installation is relatively easy. It's connecting the camera to the MFD which needs to be confirmed them stickied on here.

yes, this is the thing you may missed Reverse video. I checked with my prius, it shares the same OEM part # with the one shown in that thread. I guess it is possible i can work out to change it into an i-tech version then.
