Curious to hear what 06 owners are doing about the lack of roadside assistance for this years model. AAA? Do they know much about the Prius? I can't imagine they have EVER towed one before, and I wouldn't want my baby to be towed to just any repair center for obvious reasons. My dealer's salesman told me it was included before I signed the check. After I signed he said it wasn't included. I wanted to keep my car anyway, but also don't want to sweat getting stuck in the middle of nowhere!!! Thanks for any input
If I remember correctly, I was told that if the vehicle has a warranty issue while still in warranty, then towing to the closest qualified dealership is free. Meaning, if there wasn't a Prius Technician available at the dealership just down the street, the next closest dealership with a Prius Technician on duty (or available) would be the destination. And, I could require the vehicle be moved by flatbed instead of towed. It's all part of the warranty program.

I'm sure others are interested in the details after the problems with the safety recalls last year... what if you are in the middle of the Nevada desert driving throught the night and your engine stops on the highway? anyone else care to chime in?
Yes, I've had AAA roadside assitance for many years, and plan on using them should anything go wrong with my Prius. As far as AAA's knowledge regarding the Prius, I guess we will just have to wait to find out!
I purchased a 2006 and I received a 3 year/36,000 roadside assistance. I purchased my Prius from Titus Will toyota in Tacoma, WA. My son who bought a 2005 a week or two before me from a different dealer did not receive roadside assistance. I told him to check on it. As I do not know if this is an option offered by the dealer or if it is standard. Kathleen
It doesn't matter who provides the roadside assistance, the company that Toyota contracts with for 04-05 Prii or AAA; it is the owners responsibility to make sure that the tow operator does things correctly and is aware of any special situations, such as jump points under the hood, correct towing procedure, which type of towing apparatus we preffer (flatbed or wheel lift). Tow operators are not operated by or owned by AAA or any other roadside assistance group. They are independant contractors who do their own thing, but provide services based upon what is required in their contract to be a AAA or other assistance program tow company. If you need a tow and the operator that arrives wants to do things contrary to what we know to be best for the vehicle, point it out in the manual and if that doesn't work, refuse to go any farther with that individual and call the roadside assistance center for further assistance.
All 05 production run vehicles have the roadside assistance as part of the package from Toyota corporate. There should be a sticker in the driver's side bad door window that indicates the roadside assistance number and a triple fold with a "membership" card should be in the glove box. If you received 3/36 from Titus Will, I'd be looking for documentation of where to call in case you need it. If I'm correct, when you purchase a Toyota Platinum extended warranty you also get road assistance. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I cannot go look at my extended warranty documents right now.
I did not purchase an extended warrenty. Yes, the number is on the window and in my documentation. No membership car but I'll look again. Kathleen
How is it that some dealership would be allowed to include the roadside assistance program for the 06, while others claim it is NOT available for the 06? Im definately not down with giving my dealer another 1.5k plus tax for the extended warantee. Does the warantee that Tony offers included roadside assistance? If it does, seems like it would be a surefire bet to get!!
An alternative to AAA is the Better World Club <http://www.betterworldclub.com/>. They offer discounts for hybrid drivers and even roadside assistance for bicycles.
