    first time Prius buyer here,

The car has 39k miles, with complete regular service records from dealer, and 1 year left on extended warranty. I thought it was a fair deal until edmunds said it was only worth like 12k private party. The car is pkg 4 I be lieve ( backup cam, cd changer, mp3, no nav.) I like the regular maintenance, below avg odo, and the warranty, but the edmunds figure really freaked me out. Any opinions? I plan to drive about 10k miles a year and keep the car for at least 7 yrs. thanks. Andrew

The values are extremely geographically dependant. Further from the coasts and into bubba-land, the lower the price. If you live in the bay area expect to pay more than someone from say anywhere in oklahoma.

KBB and Edmunds are just average suggestions. Are you buying private party? Then average the two and offer that. If you are comfortable paying what you are paying, then do so.If you are buying from a stealership then disregard all pricing you find online, you will always pay more.

$15K for a used 2007 Prius is high for my area. However when I go out to silicon valley, that figure sounds about right and almost on the "getting a deal" side.

Yeah, it'd help to know the OP's geographic area.

    (Also an Andrew... :))

Yea I saw kbb is bigher than edmunds, but I believe kbb is higher than market because cars listed at kbb values on craigslist don't seem to move very fast. kbb indicates 15k as price for average. usually I can just tame an average of.kbb & edmunds, but the edmunds is so low that its making tbe average like 13-14k which had me worried. I was debating tbis one vs another fully loaded 08 (nav+rear cam+leather everything) 70k miles for 16k, assuming they both are in very good condition, is there a clear winner here? I was gonna have leather seats put in the 07 for 2k, so really it would be 17k 07 with 40k miles vs 16k 08 witb 70k miles, thays why I'm leaning towards the 07 since 30k less miles seems to be worth $1k extra.

yea I am in the middle of silicon valley, but the edmunds should already be adjusted for zip code, so was baffled at the low estimate. I realize that the end of year is coming with 2013 models, but I figure its pretty much same as 12 models so am not waiting to buy.

I bought my 2007 (with 87k miles) for under 13k back in march of 2011. For what that's worth.

I use ebay to check prices. Locally a 2007 with that low mileage is around $12-13.

Check ebay with your zip to get a fell. And yes thats a rip off price..

Interesting to see all the variance in prices. I got there to buy it this morning and he already sold it to someone else 1/2 hour earlier (but didn't bother to call me =( ). Oh well I was gonna negotiate it down $500 anyways lol...

BTW I just test drove the Gen III prius this afternoon, it seems to accelerate smoother. Has anyone compared the two in terms of ease of driving experience?

Just for the purpose of helping you make your decision, I just bought a 2007 Level 5 (nav, homelink, JBL) with brand new tires (less than 200 miles on them), a spare set of winter tires on rims, and 53,000 miles for $13k even. I also got a cool set of rubber (toyo oem?) rubber mats that came with the car :D

I live in Metro Detroit area.

Thats actually a very good price. Around the same here. Anywhere the economy is exceptionally bad is the best place to shop.

FWIT: I adopted my 2007 pkg5 on July 24 for $14,900+tx+tag+title NO DEALERS FEE from Earl Stewart Toyota in West Palm Beach. I am very HAPPY w/ it !! The DEALER has helped me a few times & saved me $$ by checking things & tinting. I agree, the economic area one resides WILL & DOES the market make. Ever since the 4th of July when gas prices went back to ripping us all off-the prices of a Pri went UP. I'm GLAD I MADE THE MOVE WHEN I DID. The number of pre-owned Prii are dwindling. I'm THRILLED w/ the DREAM-MACHINE'S ability to do what was promised: keep GREEN in my wallet. FYI: other NAME/TV Dealers went up to $16k & $17K the night b-4 I made my decision on cars not even having all the perks mine has. I suggest: subscribe to all the "car for sale" web-sites u have in your area (ie autotrader; carmax.com etc) This is my 2 cents but I ride behind it @ 47+MPG ! Good luck

PS_As far as KBB & Edmunds websites go-none of their posted prices I found to be "Real World" concerning dealers within 150 miles of my home. That negated my considering their value and or relevance.

A lot of the Priuses I see at the dealerships here in St. Louis area are listed about 5 grand over KBB wholesale, and even KBB is putting a 4-5 grand markup on the cars. I also see from the carfax reports that a lot of them have been in one dealer or another's inventory from as far back as May in one case. I think fuel price fluctuations have a lot to do with spot pricing on these things.

As I started gauging 'PRI' prices since last Feb, I found Current Local Gas Prices dictated the prices of all pre-owned. Definitely a correllation between the 2 which really spurred me to "jump in" the end of last July, on my wife's birthday, as i saw Inventories @ dealer's lots going DOWN= inventory of used is another variable. You guys above me--you done good as long as you are happy. I am still thrilled getting 47-53MPG. Good Luck. DonJr
