Someone mentioned to me about getting a clearcoat sealant on the car to protect it from chips, etc. Has anyone done this? Any recommendations of what type to use, avoid, etc? I've never heard of this and was wondering if others have done it. Thansk
Get a clear bra applied to the front from the bottom of the bumper up onto the hood. The same companies that do window tints also do these. You can also get the door mirrors and other potential damage sites protected in the same way.
I second the clear bra/vinyl recommendation. If I could go back again, it would be my 1st mod & I would get it done but now that I have little nicks & scratches I feel it's too late.
No sealant will protect from chips--or even swirls, for that matter. I don't like the way clear bras look, so my view has always been you're going to get a few chips on the front part of your cars, no big deal. Of course, being conscientious (paranoid ) about staying from behind gravel/construction trucks helps a lot.
Mine has done a good job of preventing front end chips that others have complained about on the forum. Also, mine looks fine, and any minor appearance issues are far outweighed by the body protection the clear film provides.
Thanks for all the responses.... Never even thought about the clear bra, although I have heard about it. Maybe I'll look into a local dealer and see what they run. For those of you who have it, how much did it cost you?? Thanks
I had the clear bra installed on my car, which is Pearl Blizzard. The film is made by 3M and is invisible. After having the car for 2 days a stone damaged the paint...which exposed the black rubber (bumper). I had it repaired and immediately and had the 3M film installed. It has a five year warranty and cost $995. It covers the bumper, front of the car, black trim in the bumper, most of the hood, part of the front fenders and side mirrors. The car looks great!
Go on the 3M paint protection film web site. Enter your zip code and it will direct you to a trained installer. Hope this helps.
Yes; Prii seem to be gravel magnets. That 0.24 Cd don't come free. I wish I had gotten the 3M film when I had the hood and bumper cover replaced after a minor accident.
I have been applying opti coat sealant on a lot of new cars in the past 2 months. Subaru BRZ, Scion FRS, BMW 328i It's like a hard coat on top of the clear coat. Google it Auto Salon Works I did do a correction on my wife's prius hood and sealed it Rejex but it's not the same as opti coat or ppf. PPF is what will fully protect against chips if done right with a custom cut and not a template cut. I believe the venture shield ppf is pretty good as it is used by Premier.
Well make sure that you do a full detail with correcting any defects before you opti coat If done right you will only use about 6-8ml. Always lay the syringe flat when done or not in use. my portfolio: Auto Salon Works
OK, thanks. Package arrived yesterday so I'm planning on putting it on this weekend. I'll update when finished !!
