Have you guys notice that how the rear seat vent works? When you started your car and car was moving, did you notice that vent is always blowing? OK, I just notice that my rear seat vent just keeps blowing when my car is moving. Especially, it is loud as I hear when I turn off my radio.

Vent? Are you talking about the battery fan intake?

I've started tracking the vent speed via the Torque App for Android. We have a dog who rides in the Prius frequently, plus we have a back seat cover that on occasion will cover the vent opening. i just want peace of mind.

The PID info suggests that speed ranges from 0-6 (no units, just steps), with 0=off and 6=full speed. After a day or 2 of tracking, it appears that my fan is always running at least at 1, with a max speed of 3. According to my logs the traction battery max temperature was 118F and min was 115F during this time (outside temps were around 90F and humid, and I had A/C set at 78-79F). Battery intake air temperature ranged from 91-102F.

Our car is a 2011 with 10,xxx miles on the odo.

Unless you have breed of dog that doesn't shed, you should occasionally (annually?) check the battery vent system to see if it is collecting enough dog hair to cause problems. If your battery vent fan speed starts increasing under the same operating conditions, that would be a clue that the vent is getting restricted.

There have been posts on PC on how to clean it out.

I checked the fan on mine after a year of two dogs riding in the back seat and found the fan to be free of hair. It was a tiny bit complex to get everything out of the back and the covers off to get to the fan and housing. I think that if you had a leaf blower and aimed it towards the rear seat vent, you could accomplish the same thing. If anything did come out you would see it laying on the spare tire.
